Process Development Chemical Engineer
PROCESS DEVELOPMENT CHEMICAL ENGINEER
Codexis is searching for a process development chemical engineer to support R&D in separations, extractions, adsorptions, fermentation and distillation operations.
Codexis is a leading developer of proprietary biocatalysts that the company believes has the potential to revolutionize chemistry-based manufacturing processes across a variety of industries.
The company has used its technology platform to enable biocatalyst-based commercial-scale drug manufacturing processes and delivered biocatalysts and drug products to some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Codexis has a funded collaboration in the biofuels market, and the company is pursuing funded collaborations in several other bioindustrial markets, including carbon management, water treatment and chemicals. This position is seeking a qualified and seasoned Chemical Engineer that will provide process development skills to support this collaboration in the bioindustrial and biofuels markets. This position will report to Codexis’ Director of Engineering and Process Chemistry.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Support projects involving R&D work in Separations, Extractions, Adsorptions, Fermentation and Distillation operations. Support the R&D project teams by providing them with timely and applicable process engineering evaluations that cover various process designs and process economic parameters.
REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor/Masters in Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of related experience or PhD in Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of related experience.Demonstrated experience in interaction with multifunctional teams ranging from the laboratory to plant startups.Experience in process simulation (for ex. Aspen Plus, Simulation Science’s PRO/II, Super Pro, ICARUS, etc…).Experience with developing physical property and reaction parameters using laboratory data for computer modeling. Applicable work on reaction kinetics, vapor-liquid and liquid-liquid equilibrium data reduction a plus.Experience in process flow designs a plus.Experience with conceptual and/or actual process economics and their evaluations.Process scale up experience from laboratory to pilot to commercial scale a plus.Project engineering, operations and fermentation experience a plus.Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task across teams.Ability to work independently and within multiple project teams.Must be able to work and communicate well within project teams.Must be motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.Must be flexible, able to work on several projects simultaneously. Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, as well as presentation skills.
