Principal Scientist - (Job Number: 0808696) DescriptionVeridex, LLC provides cancer diagnostic products that will enable earlier disease detection and as well as more accurate staging, monitoring and therapeutic management of cancer patients. The company is initially commercializing two complementary pr oduct lines: CELLSEARCH™ assays that identify, enumerate and characterize circulating tumor cells directly from a single tube of blood; and GENESEARCH™ assays that use molecular technologies to diagnose, stage and more accurately characterize tumors. Plans discovery and development programs and originates, designs and/or directs investigations in areas assigned to the laboratory. Actively interacts with the internal and external scientific community to maintain a state-of-the-art knowledge. Participates in supervisory process, including training and evaluating associate staff, as well as coordinating their work. Employ molecular and genomic techniques to identify and evaluate biomarkers for diagnostic applications in cancer and other major therapeutic areas, including nucleic acid extraction from various types of human specimens including FFPE samples. Carefully plan, execute, analyze, and document experiments. Incumbent should be familiar with novel, molecular techniques and be capable of employing such approaches in the lab and maintain project documentation and write summary reports as needed. Principal Scientist will be proficient in publishing work and filing patent applications and should be very experienced in presenting work and strategic plans to senior management and internal && external collaborators. Provide analytical support to bioinformatics team for the analysis of high-throughput genomic data Write and review product documentation. Provide leadership and direction to project teams, including bench-level Scientists. Principal Scientist is expected to provide support to other projects within the R&&D organization, as needed. A PhD or MD experience with 5 to 8 years of industry experience is required. Supervisory experience is desirable. Strong training in molecular biology or equivalent and cancer biology background is required; cell biology experience is preferred. Know-how in gene profiling and marker identification using microarray and high-throughput technologies is strongly pref. Extensive hands-on experience with quantitative real time RT-PCR is required. Expertise in the extraction of nucleic acids from multiple specimen types is required. Diagnostic assay development and cell sorting experience is a plus. Experience leveraging novel technology into an innovative product is required. Ability to design and execute complex laboratory experiments is required. Strong scientific publications and evidence of scientific initiative is required. Team orientation is required. The ability to be highly motivated and a self-starter is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills are required. Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to take initiative is required. Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required. 10% travel is required.
