Principal Electrical Systems Engineer - (Job Number: 0809543) DescriptionEthicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. a member of Johnson && Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical Systems Engineer, located in Cincinnati, OH. Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - develops and markets advanced medical devices for minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. The company focuses on procedure-enabling devices for the interventional diagnosis and treatment of conditions in general and bariatric surgery, as well as gastro-intestinal health, gynecology and surgical oncology. We are seeking an applicant to join a new, highly visible, product platform created to transform patient care. The qualified applicant, at the Principal level, will be able to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and fields. They will make decisions independently on engineering issues and coordinate/direct multiple projects. They will serve as a key consultant during low-level design and participate in systems integration activities across the project. The Principal Electrical Systems Engineer will participate with marketing, regulatory, quality, operations, clinical and finance partners to translate key business and customer needs into clear Product Design Requirements, concepts and technical specifications. This individual will provide leadership of personnel performing technical project work from conception through commercialization and this includes ensuring that the definition and development of specifications and architectures for systems and modules are adequate. This individual will establish and maintain cutting edge hardware development processes. This individual will engage internal and external stakeholders to define optimal procedures to facilitate dynamic franchise needs and plan and perform system validation activities to ensure compliance with FDA regulations, ISO regulations and company standard operating procedures including system hazards analysis and adjust system architecture to mitigate hazards. This individual will act in the role of individual contributor as needed to advance projects and lead diverse technical discussions, which result in decisions on optimal design choices. This individual will evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to influence the design process and technologies and will be able to plan and manage project activities within allocated resources and manage the resolution of problems. A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of 10 years related business experience is required. Must have at least 6 years experience in systems engineering, and at least 4 years experience in hands-on hardware development. Previous experience in a regulated environment is required. Experience should include technical leadership of new product development and corrective action procedures are required. This experience should demonstrate the ability to perform as a lead System Engineer, providing daily work direction to technical project team members, reviewing the output and ensuring the quality and technical accuracy of deliverables to meet agreed timelines. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are required to develop working relationships with various teams in a fast-paced, global environment. Extensive experience in embedded system design for real-time systems is required. Hands on experience designing microcontroller-based systems along with analog and digital circuits are required. Experience with EMI/EMC and Electrical Safety standards is required. Must have experience performing system level risk and Failure Mode Effect Analysis, with strong problem solving skills including the ability to determine the root cause of product problems and to propose appropriate solutions with consideration for all tradeoffs in implementation. Familiarity with FDA regulated environment for medical devices and associated documentation is highly desired. Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and effective interface with project teams, physicians and suppliers will be needed in this role. This position will require 10-20% travel and will be based in Cincinnati, OH.
