For additional information, please visit www.amo-inc.com     Responsible for R&D activities related to the design and development of insertion systems and devices for ophthalmic implantation. Ability to provide technical direction on assigned projects and coordination with other engineering and business disciplines throughout the design and development process. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet product specifications. Stays current with cutting-edge medical device industry and technology trends to ensure innovative product design.   • Assist with execution of the design and development of complex medical devices and implants for insertion system accessories and consumables process development and design transfer to manufacturing site. • Develop detailed CAD design packages (3D data and 2D drawings). Develop and execute prototype testing plans and protocols. • Develop new concepts from initial design to market phase, including feasibility studies to verify functionality. • Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of R & D. • Strong knowledge in test methodologies, standards and relevant patents. Investigate and evaluates existing technologies. • Identify, qualify, and oversee subcontractors and suppliers. • Interface with customers (surgeons and nurses) to define product and project requirements • Work effectively within a cross-functional teamwork BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or biomedical with a minimum of 5 years technical experience, of which at least 2 years in the medical device industry. Proficient in mechanical design principles, using a CAD system for designing products and tooling, and material selection. Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, including injection molding of plastics, machining methods, rapid prototyping techniques, fabrication, materials properties. Knowledge of and experience in design/development of surgical handpieces, implants, and fluid dispensing methods of medical devices is a plus. Familiar with FMEA, DFMA techniques, BOM structuring, test protocol writing, verification testing, quality inspection methodology, and report writing. Experience leading small project teams in a cross-functional product development environment including involvement with projects from inception to production a plus. Ability to be an individual contributor in the field of expertise with innovations and to work in a multi-tasking environment. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with ophthalmic surgeons and staff in the development and evaluation of new products.
