Scope: The science behind the technology is the combination of fluorescent cell imaging, F-theta optics with galvanometer scanning, intelligent image analysis tools and high-precision laser targeting to enable manipulation of living cells for the delivery of macromolecules into cells and the purification of cell populations.  The introduction of this technology will help pave the way for personalized medicine – the underpinnings of tomorrow’s medicine.

 

Optical Engineer

 

Job Description:  The Optical Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of the optical subsystems within the company’s proprietary bioresearch instrument systems used for cellular analysis and manipulation.  The candidate will utilize ZEMAX, CODE V and/or other design tools to develop optical subsystems which meet specific performance requirements.  The engineer will work with other company engineers to design, develop and test prototype systems as well as vendors to refine designs to improve manufacturing, assembly, and cost parameters.  He/she will develop test methods, test and validation stations, and procedures to improve incoming QA and outgoing QC of optical parts and subassemblies and effectively utilize contractors and consultants to provide additional expertise and manpower when necessary.  The candidate will also analyze/improve designs for manufacturing and assembly tolerances, develop test procedures to characterize optical system performance, actively participate in optics QA/QC, assembly & troubleshooting and provide lead design reviews focused on optical subsystems

 

Educational and Work Experience Requirements:  B.S./M.S. in Physics or related discipline Professional experience (5-8 years) in optical systems development and implementation is required.  Prior experience with telecentric optical system implementation, laser-scanning systems (F-theta) and/or microscopy/imaging is highly desired.  Demonstrated ability to manage and complete multiple tasks, using contractors and consultants when necessary, is a plus.
