Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer
An exceptional career opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated manufacturing engineer to join a start-up in the area of bio-technology. Pacific Biosciences is seeking the best for developing instrumentation that will revolutionize DNA sequencing. The Manufacturing engineer’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Working directly with Engineering to design tooling, jigs and test fixtures that will be used to assemble, align and test opto-mechanical components and assemblies. • Working with the Manufacturing team to set-up, program, maintain and validate pick and place equipment. • Transitioning designs from Engineering to Manufacturing. • Design of custom fixturing to aid production processes. • Develop processes to transfer R&D equipment to the production environment • Aligning and testing complex optical systems. • Working closely with the Engineering team to resolve component issues and supplier issues. • Assume an active role in design for manufacturability and cost reduction activities • Work with supply chain to outsource manufacturing and subcontract assembly to ramp production Position Requirements: • Education: BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience • Experience manufacturing complex instruments is a must • Experience aligning and characterizing optical systems is a must • Experience developing tests for optics and opto-mechanical assemblies • Experience testing optics and opto-mechanical assemblies • Experience designing tools, fixtures, jigs and test stations for manufacturing is a must • Experience with pick and place tools is a must • Knowledge of robotics and motion control is a must • Knowledge of test equipment is a must • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, forming, and injection molding • Proficiency in documenting designs and writing change orders (ECOs) • Demonstrated ability to transfer design from Engineering to Manufacturing • CAD proficiency using SolidWorks is a plus • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills • Product development and/or industry experience in a multi-disciplinary Biotech environment is a plus.
