Position Description:

As an Engineer II at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and play a significant role in creating genomic analysis tools used in the leading edge of research and diagnostic medicine. You will participate in the design, development and testing of new instrumentation and tooling and will also provide support to manufacturing to satisfy the quality, throughput and yield requirements for existing products in a rapid growth environment.Description:Job duties include but are not limited to: • Support design of electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical and fluidic instrumentation for internal and external customer use,• Incorporate design for manufacturability principles into product designs,• Coordinate and conduct fabrication and assembly, as well as integration and system testing,• Interact with cross-disciplinary project teams in order to meet project milestones and end goals,• Critical analysis of existing systems for process improvement,• Estimation of timelines and budgeting for engineering development efforts and,• Other such duties that may be determined by ManagementQualifications:Education and Experience:• BS mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering, MS preferred,• Minimum 3 years professional experience,• Experience designing instrumentation for the biotech, biomedical, nanotechnology or semiconductor industries,• Experience designing manufacturing fixtures, tooling and automation systems,• Instrumentation development for volume manufacturing and/or commercial sale preferred, • Experience in a high volume manufacturing environment preferred,• Fundamental understanding of material science and material properties, particularly ferrous/non ferrous metals and polymers,• Solid understanding of machining and standard manufacturing processes,• Experience with Solid Works or similar solid modeling design software,• Experience with FDA regulated medical device product development preferred
