Manager, Health Policy and Economics Description Ethicon Endo- Surgery, Inc., a member of Johnson and Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for 3 Managers, Health Policy and Economics - Sedation, covering the following territories: Northeast (NY, PA, ME, CT, RI, NJ, DE, VT, MA), MidAtlantic (WV, VA, MD, TN, AL, GA, SC, NC, FL) and Central (TX, NM, AZ, NE, KS, OK, AR, LA, MS, CO). Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. develops and markets advanced medical devices for minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. The company focuses on procedure-enabling devices for the interventional diagnosis and treatment of conditions in general and bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal health, gynecology and surgical oncology. Products include: the ENDOPATH® XCEL™ Access System; CONTOUR™ Curved Cutter Stapler; HARMONIC™ ultrasonic cutting and coagulating surgical devices; and the MAMMOTOME® Breast Biopsy System for diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer. Working on the Sedation business enables you to be in the rare situation where you will be functioning in a start-up type environment, yet within a large and well-established business unit of J&&J. The business opportunity is defined by launching a novel device that administers a high performance IV sedative. This innovative product platform has the potential to transform procedural sedation by increasing access to care while reducing costs in various clinical settings. This is a rapidly changing, dynamic marketplace that requires the insights from a variety of stakeholders. All sedation team members are co-located in a satellite building with a single focus. The Manager, Health Policy and Economics is responsible for Developing Ethicon Endo-Surgery programs targeted at leading payers to ensure coverage for and payment of CAPS (Computer Assisted Personal Sedation) procedures. They will work with the Procedure Marketing group to develop an integrated program for Ethicon Endo-Surgery to develop payer relationships and ensure coverage for CAPS as well as identify key payers and / or other institutions for relationship building with Ethicon Endo-Surgery. They will also develop the complete fact base on all key participants to understand their position and issues with CAPS. The Manager, Health Policy and Economics will develop the core marketing program to be used with payers and customize the message for key payers (where appropriate) as well as key messages on clinical outcomes, economic outcomes, potential impact for the payer given its subscriber base. They will create the marketing mix/approach for working with target audience (e.g., direct meetings, industry journal articles, advertising, etc.) and meet with and discuss Ethicon Endo-Surgery' program with key institutions and influencers. The Manager, Health Policy and Economics will work with Procedure Managers to design and conduct outcomes studies and ensure that the economic outcomes information is available for use in Ethicon Endo-Surgery's marketing programs. They will assess the value of having the company represented at various industry conferences; identify the conferences that EES should attend; and lead Ethicon Endo-Surgery's involvement at these conferences. The Manager, Health Policy and Economics will establish and maintain good relationships with key CAPS decision-makers at the leading payer institutions. They will develop training program for Ethicon Endo-Surgery staff to enhance their level of understanding of reimbursement and ensure that Procedure Managers, Board and Sales and Marketing have a working knowledge of reimbursement and what is needed to influence the CAPS decision, as well as develop materials to train Sales Representatives on reimbursement issues and how to discuss such issues with surgeons and hospital administration. Other responsibilities may be assigned and not all responsibilities listed may be assigned. A minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required. A Masters Degree is preferred. Must have experience working with health plans/payors. Experience working with Employers is highly desirable. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the health care industry, working with a wide variety of customers including: hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, manufacturers, payers, national account organizations is required. Experience in the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical or Health plan industry is required. Experience in working with reimbursement strategies and tactics associated with related products is highly desirable. Previous reimbursement experience working with health plans and payors is required; an understanding of billing and reimbursement procedures from the facility and payor perspective would be preferred. Knowledge of reimbursement across treatment settings (i.e., hospital inpatient, hospital outpatient, physician's office, long term care, home health, etc.) is required. Marketing experience a plus. Understanding of complexities associated with the changing health care environment (i.e., fee-for-services, shift to managed care, federal/state health care reform risk, shift from payer to provider) is required. Negotiating and contracting skills are highly desirable. This position requires strong communication and presentation skills. Knowledge of commercial health plans is required. Previous leadership experience required. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Employers and hospital operations is highly desirable. Understanding process and decision-making criteria for evaluating new technologies and for setting reimbursement rates is highly desirable. Ability to cover and live in one of the following territories: Northeast (NY, PA, ME, CT, RI, NJ, DE, VT, MA), MidAtlantic (WV, VA, MD, TN, AL, GA, SC, NC, FL) and Central (TX, NM, AZ, NE, KS, OK, AR, LA, MS, CO) is required.A minimum of 50% travel is required. Some overnight travel may be required, due to home location in territory; account management needs, training requirements and other meetings. Candidates must have a positive motor vehicle record as evidenced by possession of a valid driver's license and must not have been cited or convicted of any moving violations or been involved in any accidents in the past three years.
