HR Manager/Sr. Manager
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is a global biotechnology company committed to the discovery and development of breakthrough small molecule drugs for serious diseases. The Company's strategy is to commercialize its products both independently and in collaboration with major pharmaceutical companies. Vertex's product pipeline is focused on viral diseases, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, cancer, pain and bacterial infection. The HR Manager will provide proactive HR leadership to Vertex Pharmaceutical's San Diego site. This site has approximately 180 employees and is predominately a research discovery site and also has some group of G&A support functions. This person will support the Scientific Site Lead (Vice President) by supporting the business strategy and objectives through people management expertise; develop and maintain an understanding of business objectives and operating environment to proactively deliver applicable solutions; deliver HR programs and services in the areas of talent acquisition, employee relations, manager coaching and consultation, and performance management.Responsibilities· Provide HR leadership to Vertex's San Diego site· Manage San Diego HR team (HR Representative and HR Assistant) · Support assigned business groups providing consultation and delivery of HR programs and services to achieve business plans.· Deliver customized programs and services to the organization in the areas of organizational development, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and staffing.· Provide consultation to managers and employees on all people related issues. · Provide employee relations expertise to client groups ensuring compliance to company practices; state and federal employment law. Investigate employee issues and recommend appropriate action. · Identify key trends collaborate with the business to provide recommendations and solutions.· Support other HR areas (Strategic Staffing, Compensation and Benefits, Learning & Development) with rollout to San Diego site of new programs and policies.· Will lead and/or act as team member on various HR or business programs, projects, or teams.QualificationsQualifications· Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred· Minimum 6-8+ years HR Generalist experience· Pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred, but not required· Experience working in a stand-alone field location· Experience leading projects and project teams from creation through implementation across multiple sites· Problem solving, analysis, negotiation, and excellent people management skills· Demonstrated ability to address strategic HR issues as well as the tactical proficiency in HR practices of a fast paced, dynamic, growing environment· Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff · Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously· Strong communication, influence, and relationship-building skills: ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing · Knowledge of employee relation principles, practices, methods, and programs · Knowledge and understanding of federal and state employment and labor laws (preferably California law knowledge), regulations, procedures, and standards · Previous management experience preferred, but not required· Ability to foster a cooperative environment· Strong team-orientation and collaboration· Resourcefulness and detail orientation· Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc., is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
