Facilities Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Division: Viacord Division of PerkinElmer
Hours: M – F; 7am – 4pm

ViaCord, a Division of PerkinElmer, provides umbilical cord blood preservation services for expectant families. Cord blood is a valuable source of non-controversial stem cells; the building blocks of our blood and immune systems. Cord blood stem cells saves lives today and medical researchers are exploring new uses for umbilical cord blood stem cells for tomorrow, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. PerkinElmer employs over 9,000 employees worldwide. This position is based at ViaCord’s Lab Facility that currently employs 50+ employees.
Position Overview:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician manages the day-to-day facility and equipment needs of the facility. This person will ensures all systems are maintained and operating properly. These activities are performed in compliance with industry regulations, site operating procedures, quality and safety policies and cost and processing time standards. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is required to be competent on all SOPs performed by Materials Coordinator, performing these functions in the absence of the Materials Coordinator.
Maintains a transparent work environment by regular collaboration with all Cord Processing Laboratory Staff and Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Information Systems and Material procurement from Boston HQ and Facility Support functions. Other assignments as requested.
Responsibilities:
Ensures preventative maintenance, calibration and equipment repair according to schedule.Troubleshoots equipment and facility problems as they arise, and performs or schedules the repairs and implements a corrective action if necessary.Maintains equipment logs and operating reports in a timely and accurate fashion.Executes IOQ related to centrifuges, hoods, cryogenic storage tanks, HVAC systems.Ensures the integrity of the cryogenic storage tanks and warehouse.Knows all pertinent regulations and standards and ensures facilities and equipment are maintained in accordance with those requirements.Assists Processing, Quality Assurance and Quality Control in resolving issues related to the facilities and equipment.Daily communication of facility & equipment related needs and occurrences to site management.Ensures work is performed within the guidelines of standard operating procedures.Ensures that the emergency backup generator is properly maintained and ready for operation at all times.Ensures 24 hour oversight of facility security alarm system.
Qualifications:
· Education: Desire equivalent to Associates Degree in Manufacturing Systems or Facilities Maintenance. Experience: Minimum 3 years experience managing facilities and equipment in the Medical Products, Biotechnology or Blood Banking industries with exposure to Manufacturing Systems, Materials Management Systems, and Facilities. Supervisory experience is preferred.
· Skilled in problem solving and troubleshooting
· Knowledge of cGMPs as it related to facilities and equipment maintenance.
· Strong mechanical skills.
· Knowledge of electrical systems.
· Ability to multi-task.
· Skilled with the use of Microsoft Word, Excel.
· Ability to work in a collaborative style.
· Conflict management skills.
· Outstanding work ethic.
· Ability to professionally respond to quickly changing priorities.
· Solid oral and written comprehension & expression abilities.
