Facilities Equipment & Lab Technician - (Job Number: 0806197) DescriptionEthicon, Inc., a member of Johnson && Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Facilities Equipment && Lab Technician, located in Somerville, NJ. ETHICON, INC., develops and markets products for surgery, wound management and advanced wound care treatment. Products are marketed through ETHICON Products for precise wound closure and tissue repair; GYNECARE for minimally invasive women's health procedures; and Johnson && Johnson Wound Management for hemostasis and advanced wound care. The Facilities Equipment && Lab Technician will support a cross functional research team working in the area of wound closure. Principal duties and responsibilities will have the Facilities Equipment && Lab Technician participate on development project teams designing new products/processes for devices/equipment. Assist with product design, prototype manufacture, setup and run of experimental manufacturing equipment, perform visual and functional quality tests, and issue technical reports. Under minimal supervision, oversees planning, design, construction, maintenance and alterations of R&&D equipment, machinery, and other facilities. Responsible for the physical maintenance of the facility and R&&D production equipment. Evaluates and selects contractors/vendors. Ensures contractors meet all performance requirements. Responsibilities will include the processing of mechanical devices, pharmaceutical formulations, polymer and other chemical products and processes. Participate in the specification and assembly of appropriate laboratory facilities, procurement of chemical and pharmaceutical compounds and mechanical components. Perform design, fabrication and assembly work for feasibility samples, will work to characterize products and will maintain all processing records. Work to prepare SOP's JSA's and maintain the appropriate safety procedures within the laboratory environment. Participate in transfer of processes/technologies to development team associates and must be comfortable with a functionally diverse working environment and rapidly changing priorities. A minimum of 5+ years experience in medical device research/development processes is required. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Polymer, Mechanical, Biomedical or related Engineering areas is preferred; the equivalent years of experience necessary to gain the knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor&'s degree is preferred. Proficient hands on skills running and trouble-shooting manufacturing and testing equipment is required. Experience with GLPs, GMPs, polymer processing, polymer processing equipment, or pharmaceutical formulation is an asset. Previous experience with polymer or extrusion processing equipment is an asset. Previous experience or knowledge of chemical and mechanical characterization equipment and methods is an asset. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Proficient in use and application of commonly used word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and database software (MS Office) is required. Knowledge of AutoCad, Solidworks, Minitab, and ASTM and ISO Standards is an asset. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects within time frames and budgetary restrictions as well as the ability to build effective interdependent partnering relationships which result in facilities/maintenance goals and objectives being met will be required. This candidate must be well organized with demonstrated abilities to learn new processing methods, testing methods, analytical equipment and method. This position will require up to 10% travel.
