Primary Function of Position:
The successful candidate will:Apply his/her manufacturing and electrical engineering experience to the successful development and manufacture of a novel system for computer-enhanced surgery. Support development efforts and play a key role in product transfer to manufacturing while optimizing reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, capacity, and cost. Excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making careful, sound decisions when faced with the time pressures typical of new product development and manufacturing.
Position Roles and Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities for this Manufacturing Engineer position include:Evaluate and challenge electrical system designs for technical merit, reliability, serviceability and manufacturability. Provide change proposals and participate in change actions.Manage the bill of material configuration of new designs as they are developed, and facilitate transfer to production. Assist design engineers with material procurement steps and supplier communication.Participate in fabrication of system components and assemblies in order to gain experience with designs and to support testing requirements.Understand PCA and electrical system design verification and validation activities as input to manufacturing test development.Troubleshoot and resolve design and manufacturability issues.Develop formal manufacturing process instructions, including test procedures.Design, build, document and validate assembly and test fixtures, including documentation fulfillment. Facilitate the development of in-circuit test (ICT) fixtures.Approve design releases to manufacturing, review engineering documentation, provide DFM inputs.Review/approve and determine impact of ECOs from manufacturing and field perspective.Assist in creation and maintenance of an efficient manufacturing assembly line.Provide training and support to production technicians.Assist in maintaining compliance with medical device quality system including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions and ECO implementation.Provide technical support, including failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns.Review circuit diagrams and printed circuit board layouts for test coverage and manufacturability. Coordinate these aspects with PCB and PCA vendors.Interface with technicians, product development, planning, purchasing, regulatory, inspection, customer support and clinical marketing organizations.Perform other duties as required.
Required Skills: At least 5 years experience in mid/high volume manufacturing of complex electromechanical devices Electrical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering experience that includes the responsibilities listed above.Familiarity with circuit design, layout, and test, and use of related tools including ORCAD and LabView.Experience with JTAG interfaces and programming to analyze and debug circuit boards and ICs.Demonstrated ability in failure analysis and continuous improvement.Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) assessment Proficiency with use of a product life-cycle management (PLM) system, particularly Agile.A lab-oriented hands-on mind set; an ability to systematically and effectively break down a system or process into sub-parts to identify failure mechanismsStrong written and oral communications skillsA passion for creating robust and reliable productsExperienced in ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment.Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
