The Economic, Clinical and Health Outcomes (ECHO) Clinical Scientist-Medical Science Liaison (SCS-MSL) will primarily support the dissemination / education of clinical, medical economic and health outcomes information needs of our commercial Corporate Accounts && Strategic Customer Relations teams including the strategic && high potential external customers. This individual will play a key role in building strong relationships with stakeholder groups, both internal (field based medical, commercial and brand marketing, and strategic business) and external (health-policy decision makers, academic outcomes KOL's, employers, consultant vendors, commercial health plan (managed care) and public care/government partners). This scientist will present broad scope clinical (across all brands and therapeutic areas) information, pharmacoeconomic information and analysis, evidence-based medicine validated clinical information and systematic review processes, value demonstration data and models in support of formulary and reimbursement policy decisions. They'll effectively use value-based evidence-based medicine to meet situation-specific customer needs such as budget impact and evaluation of cost-effectiveness. Additional support will be available to therapeutic area specific KOLs, as well as internal colleagues requiring training or scientific support. The Clinical Scientist is responsible for increasing the clinical, medical/scientific understanding of the current and potential role of our products in treating immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. They will focus on key decision-makers at top Managed Care Organizations, commercial insurance companies, PBMs/SPPs and entitlement insurance (i.e. Medicare && Medicaid carriers). Primary customer contacts internally are the account managers (regional/national) and external customers (medical && pharmacy directors) within target accounts including affiliated professional organizations within the United States. Majority of clinical/scientific focus will be blending 'in-line' clinical/medical IBU marketing within the managed care medicine arena. The Clinical Scientist is the acknowledged expert on pharmaceutical or immunology products and related markets in all in-line areas relevant to internal and external customers: research, clinical efficacy && safety, epidemiology of the disease states; familiar with the very latest available data (e.g., clinical/medical economic and health outcomes) relative to Remicade and potential competitors and provide relevant updates to top accounts. They will provide appropriate evidence based medicine to support clinical, medical economic and health outcomes scientific needs of Medical && Pharmacy Directors at aligned priority accounts and prepare && execute Account/Business Plans in conjunction with Corporate Accounts team. The Clinical Scientist will manage all aspects of operational/regional position budget and assist in the development and appropriate use guidelines to ensure the optimal use of products for patients in need while recognizing the medical economic and health outcomes challenges presented to payers. They will offer focused Medical Affairs support to Corporate Accounts team for all legitimate actions/programs/study && research proposals to specified target account list and provide training of Payor specific issues/updates to broader CS-MSL team and help identify situations appropriate for their assistance (non-targeted accounts, major case-manager initiatives). The Clinical Scientist will develop a cadre of physician/pharmacy speakers && consultants able to offer their expertise specifically to the managed/managed care customer base. They will also provide feedback and competitive intelligence to medical affairs, franchise marketing && sales on the areas of interest in && involvement of potential future competitors and coordinate communication && activities with Regional Corporate Accounts Directors and respective teams. (e.g. Case Management Societies, AMCP, BCBSA). The qualified candidate will have a minimum of a BA/BS in life science, Advanced degree at graduate level strongly preferred e.g., MS, Ph.D., PharmD, or MD with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience, preferably in related areas (medical science liaison, pharmacist, medical communication, CRA, clinical research, academic position in health science research). Key coursework should include: biostatics, health economics, epidemiology, clinical pharmacy or medicine. Experience and knowledge of biologics and immunology is an asset. A firm understanding of United States health care systems and economics, specifically understanding perspectives, business models, data processing and information needs of managed health care and respective stakeholders is a critical aptitude. A solid appreciation of the use of evidence-based medicine in the health policy decision mapping process is mandatory. Previous experience within the Managed Care and/or Pharmacoeconomic Industry is preferred. Previous professional experience serving as a Clinical Scientist/Medical Science Liaison is preferred. Previous experience in partnering and/or Supporting Medical Affairs, Strategic Customer Groups, Franchise and Strategic Management team are preferred. Previous experience in conducting formal and informal business and clinical presentations to Internal Business Leaders and External clients is required. Exceptional skills in influencing and communication (both written and oral) as well as solid organizational and time management abilities are required. The qualified candidate will have highly developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills as well as proven ability to work independently and within a team environment. A tremendous emphasis will be placed on cross-functional partnering and team collaboration. Experience with new product launch processes within the managed care setting would be an asset. Working experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel is required. Experience with statistical programs, data management and a decision-analytic model is preferred. Position will require a minimum of 60% travel, including overnight travel.
