Director of Operations
Job Summary:
The Director of Operations (the Director) is a senior level position accountable for the formulation of operational goals, objectives, tactics and policies that align with and integrate into overall company goals and strategies. The Director must provide the leadership required to achieve the Department’s goals through his or her employees and is responsible for developing and maintaining the most qualified team of employees
Essential Functions:
· Participate as part of the senior management team in the development of overall company goals and strategies.
· Translate overall company goals and strategies into specific Department objectives and actions.
· Establish and operate a formal communication process within the Department to keep employees informed of Company direction, activities and events and keep them informed and aligned with Company goals.
· Establish a set of key department performance measurements that align with overall company goals and focus on maintaining the highest standards of quality, customer satisfaction efficiency and regulatory compliance. Use these measurements to monitor and manage performance.
· Implement and manage a system for continuous process improvements focused on customer requirements, quality and production efficiency
· Provide frequent and regularly scheduled coaching, feedback and performance evaluations to direct reports to insure their performance is in alignment with Department and Company goals and performance measurements are being met.
· Continuously evaluate the competency and qualifications of the team members. Provide training and performance improvement coaching as needed. Take corrective actions on a timely basis.
· Hire and develop new employees that support the success of the department.
· Create development plans for key employees and provide training and developmental opportunities to support a Department succession plan.
· Establish operating standards and processes that support customer and regulatory requirements in the most effective and efficient manner.
· Establish and manage to the Department budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure commitments.

· Excellent computer skills to operate software programs related to word processing, spreadsheet, databases, electronic mail, Internet, etc.
· Must be comfortable and competent in a range of venues when there is need to represent the organization.
Required Credentials:
· Bachelors Degree in science or business or Masters Degree in Business Administration or similar.
· Formal continuous process improvement training (SPC, 6-Sigma etc.).
· Minimum ten (10) years progressively responsible experience.
· Minimum of five (5) years management experience in operations with an emphasis in manufacturing, materials management, quality, continuous process improvement and logistics. Experience in the pharmaceuticals industry is highly desired, but not a requirement.
· At least three (3) years experience in all aspects of managing departments of at least thirty (30) professionals.
· Solid management track record with specific accomplishments in leading and directing groups of professionals in a closely regulated industry, including extensive understanding and experience with regulatory agencies.
· Referenced and verifiable experience and results in the use of total quality management / continuous process improvement principles and practices.
· Experience in operations-product / process development.
· Proven track record in staff and organizational development, coaching, counseling, performance evaluation and team-building. Practical know-how on providing employees with evaluations and feedback.
· Experience in accepting accountability and willing and able to exercise authority in order to accomplish goals and objectives.
· Experience in managing cross-functional projects requiring the ability to lead and manage various disciplines.
· Experience in running an operation subject to extremely high quality standards, including compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
· Experience in setting and managing to departmental standards, goals and objectives.
· Experience in policy formation.
· Experience with strategic planning and operational implementation and exposure to and participation in the development of corporate goals, strategies and business plans.
· Knowledge of administrative and financial planning procedures to coordinate activities and to develop, implement and monitor program plans, capital and operating budgets.
