Centocor Research and Development, develops innovative biomedicines. The world leader in monoclonal antibody production and technology, Centocor has brought critical biologic therapies to patients suffering from debilitating immune disorders. The Leader of US Drug Substance Technical Support is responsible for the leadership and overall management of the Technical Support group in Malvern and the Development Pilot Plant (DPP) in Springhouse. The organization provides marketed product support of bulk drug manufactured at the Malvern, Manati, and St. Louis manufacturing sites and works with the Development groups to scale-up and produce new medicines. The incumbent is responsible for driving the organization towards a culture of innovation, best practice, accountability, and efficiencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:· Provide technical support (expertise, resources, and facilities) to the Malvern, Manati, and St. Louis bulk manufacturing sites.· Direct and manage the activities of the Development Pilot Plant for the production of material for toxicology studies, generating drug for use by the Development groups, process scale-up, and equipment/process development.· Provide technical support for drug substance produced at 3 rd party contract manufacturing sites.· Work with J&&J affiliates to provide manufacturing/process development technical expertise or conduct lab/pilot plant studies.· Work with customers to develop a strategic direction for process improvement projects - allocating limited resources to the best possible opportunities.· Partner with peers to ensure sharing of best practices, improvement opportunities, and performance results.· Establish and operate within expense and capital budgets.· Review and/or approve regulatory documents. Prepare for and support regulatory inspections.· Ensure a safe work environment and that each facility and its operation meet all local and federal regulations.· Responsible for the development of all employees within the department by supporting Human Resources Planning programs including management development and training to meet current and future business needs. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelors Degree with a Masters Degree as an asset, in a scientific or engineering discipline. Must have a minimum of 10 years of work experience, with at least 5 years in a pharmaceutical bulk operation. Direct, relevant experience managing individuals and multi-disciplinary cross-functional teams is essential. Formal or on the job experience in business practices including budget management, project management, and strategic planning is required.
