Director Corporate Development

Our client is small molecule drug discovery and development company with a strong pipeline of innovative product candidates for multiple cancer indications. For three years running, they have been recognized with an award from The Scientist magazine as one of their “Best Places to Work”—in fact, in 2007 they were ranked in the top five in the magazine’s “best small companies” category. That  award put them in the company of some of the most prestigious names in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

They are adding to their capabilities in the area of business development.  Reporting to the VP of Corporate Development, the Director of Corporate Development will work as part of a team to identify, plan, and lead business discussions with other companies around potential programs or technologies that the company is interested in bringing in-house or in partnering with major pharmaceutical companies.

This is an exciting and highly visible position with a young and rapidly growing company and  requires both previous business and scientific/clinical experience. An MBA and an advanced degree in science (PhD) or medicine (MD) is strongly preferred. Additionally, candidates must have previous employment experience at either a top-tier biotechnology / pharmaceutical company, management consultancy, or other similar environment.

Responsibilities

·  Work with scientific and business teams to identify opportunities and augment the company’s oncology portfolio through either partnering of programs with a 3rd party, or in bringing 3rd party programs in house.

·  Working with the senior team, identify opportunities which align with company’s portfolio and culture.

·  Lead or be key participant in sourcing, diligence, and transaction execution to bring in additional product(s).

·  Provide regular presentations in various company forums: company meetings and represent company at certain Partnering conferences.

·  Provide input to the portfolio strategy and value creation plan.

·  Create buy-in across the Company.

·  Identify and develop relationships with prospective partners.

·  Represent the company in both scientific and business discussions with prospective partners

·  As part of the business team, provide thorough analysis and assessment of company’s research and development portfolio.

·   Develop frameworks to enable the Company to make value-maximizing investment decisions in its portfolio.

·  Negotiate agreements as part of a business team; work closely with legal and finance to collaborate on deal structure

Requirments:

 

·  MD or PhD and MBA

·  5 years in Business Development at either a top-tier biotechnology / pharmaceutical company, management consultancy

·  Familiarity with oncology drug- development

·  Ability to operate strategically, and execute on defined goals

·   Desire to be part of a team and organization where scientific and business excellence are shared values.
