CSO - Chief Scientific Officer Job Description: The purpose of this position is to provide exemplary scientific & strategic leadership in developing & growing drug discovery capabilities for our client. The incumbent shall provide through thought leadership, mentorship, influencing changes in bringing operational excellence and creating an environment of collaborative research driving successful programs in meeting the business and scientific objectives as approved by the Board. Location: Position located in India, but corporate headquarters in New Jersey.  Qualifications: Post Doctoral degree in Biology / Bio Chemistry or PKWe would also be open to a candidate with a strong medical background in drug discovery. Education Level:  Post Doctoral degree is a must.  Relevant experience:   A total experience of at-least 18 to 20 years of which the last 5 years in a very senior leadership role and has been handling multiple programs and portfolios in drug discovery.  Key Attributes of the candidate: The incumbent should have a mixed experience of working both in a major Pharma & Biotech environment. The candidate should have demonstrated experience & success in multiple therapeutical areas & target leads with including managing reasonable portfolios of integrated programs in the last 5 years. Experience should span portfolios from TARGET to CANDIDATE SELECTION.  The candidate should possess excellent judgmental and decision making capabilities. Strong networking skills with experts in academia & industry. The incumbent must be very collaborative & also mature in managing a large group of individuals in mentoring & nurturing science. Should have also worked in a collaborative research environment. Principal Accountabilities: Responsible for the drug discovery & development process for the various business engagements and the organization. Conceptualizing & structuring processes and systems to ensure operational excellence. Over-all responsibility in ensuring delivery schedules and adherence to customer quality standards. Collaborator / Customer Relationship management. Collaborating with SBU Heads & Heads of group companies in providing scientific knowledge and inputs supporting business growth. Partnering with HR in developing and building scientific competencies in the organization. Associating with CEO & SBU Heads in strategizing the drug discovery business and other businesses for the organization. Responsible for optimal utilization of resources in his / her organization. Responsible for driving career advancement plans, objective / goal setting, deciding on the KRAs for direct reports (DRs) and ensuring a similar approach for down the line reporting in the organization.  P&L responsibility, budget management on people and revenues. Supporting implementation of various HR policies and procedures as published from time to time to ensure smooth functioning of the operations.
