CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST
Under minimal direction, the candidate is responsible for complex laboratory procedures. This position requires knowledge of clinical testing and ability to be trained in molecular biology techniques, laboratory processes, specialized medical diagnostic laboratory tests, blood test procedures, and medical terminology in order to perform specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following:
• Departmental support of various procedures adopted by the department
• Ability to perform all routine test procedures below;
- Specimen processing
- Nucleic acid extraction
- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
- RT-PCR
- Real-time PCR
- Gel electrophoresis
• Ability to be trained and operate equipment listed below with sufficient proficiency to successfully execute test procedures and to train others;
- Spectrophotometer
- Electrophoresis equipment
- Centrifuges
- Sequence Analyzer
- Microarray platforms
• Prepares validation documentation of new tests and procedures as required by the company
• Assists in document control and reporting quality statistics
• Write and perform method validations
• Summarize validation data and write validation reports in compliance with accepted corporate procedures;
• Obtain and maintain standards and reference materials for ongoing testing;
• Perform method qualifications per approved procedures as required;
• Maintain laboratory in a clean, functional state compliant with GMP, QSR ad ISO requirements, as well as performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration / certifications as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify, candidates must possess 3+ years of administrative support experience ideally working in a clinical or laboratory environment and possess strong working knowledge in the MS Office suite specifically: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Successful candidate must have a solid understanding of Quality Systems Regulations and ISO quality requirements. Must also demonstrate initiative, balanced assertiveness and team orientation as well as possess effective writing & communication and excellent computer skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
B.S. degree, or equivalent, in physical or life sciences required with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in medical technology and / or quality control in the in vitro diagnostic, medical device, or pharmaceutical industry. Must have a California license CLS (Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist a plus)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to perform standard clerical functions; filing, data entry, etc. which may require time behind the computer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard laboratory environment. Ability to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals.
