Job Description Buyer - Raw Materials Packaging Components Responsible for purchasing activities associated with packaging materials (i.e., bottles, caps, corrugate, labels, etc) Develop and implement business strategies impacting supply chain consolidation, cost reduction, quality improvement as well as supplier assessment and associated scorecard activities. Forecasts, plans, prepares, issues, and controls materials requirements and purchases to support the continuous flow and delivery of raw materials to manufacturing per MPS/MRP requirements.Primary Responsibilities: Issue, update, and maintain purchase orders based on ERP system confirming suppliers capabilities to meet requirements. In conjunction with the global sourcing organization and/or the site sourcing leader, locate, survey, and select suppliers of materials and services for the company. Partner with suppliers to develop, implement, and track programs for improving supplier quality, delivery performance, and total cost of ownership. As appropriate, reduce supplier base and aggregate volume to gain leverage. Assure vendor payment terms meet corporate guidelines. Review MPS daily and work on any exceptions. Update the ERP system with real-time data to allow planning/scheduling and manufacturing visibility into interruptions in material availability. Maintain vendor metric performance including, but not limited to, vendor score cards, on-time delivery, and delta P (pricing variances). Work cross functionally to resolve inventory, production, and supplier return issues as they arise. Maintain accuracy of the ERP item master and costing. Maintain extensive product, production processes and commodity knowledge for the assigned product segments, including, but not limited to, market conditions, technical acumen, global opportunities, obsolescence, strategic opportunities, and price. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in packaging technology/engineering, supply chain management or related discipline with 2 years of purchasing or materials management experience is required. Experience with MPS/MRP and inventory control is required. Prior experience with low cost region suppliers is preffered. Experience in an ISO or GMP environment and ISM and/or APICS designation is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. Must be willing to travel up to 25%.
