With a deep and broad pipeline of potential new medicines, we continue to advance science to serve patients.Amgen is seeking an Associate Medicinal Chemistry for their state of the art facility in San Francisco, CA.The successful candidate will be part of an expanding Medicinal Chemistry group, with responsibilities including (but not limited to) the synthesis and purification of novel compounds for potential clinical development. The primary responsibilities of the Associate role include assisting Research Scientists in performing experiments, organizing data, and analyzing results. Specific responsibilities include planning and performing laboratory experiments, preparing drug candidates and analyzing compound purity. The candidate should have an understanding of structural determination using NMR and Mass Spectral techniques with knowledge of purification methods (e.g. HPLC). Associates also prepare reagents and chemical solutions, perform routine laboratory procedures and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory notebook and computer files as well as participating in group and project meetings and attending seminars.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in Organic Chemistry- 2 years of relevant and current organic chemistry laboratory experience gained through academic or industry internships or researchPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Ability to operate specialized chemistry laboratory equipment and computers- Ability to demonstrate a basic knowledge of good lab practices- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) Amgen is the leading human therapeutics company in the biotechnology industry.
