Associate Director of Annual Giving

The Buck Institute is currently seeking an Associate Director of Annual Giving. The Buck Institute is the only independent institute in the U.S. devoted solely to research on aging and age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, arthritis, and stroke. Our mission is to increase the healthspan, the healthy years of life. Awarded a federal grant to establish interdisciplinary research in a new field called Geroscience, Buck scientists work in a unique, collaborative environment that allows scientists to initiate studies quickly and respond to new opportunities in fields such as stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Our scientists represent a variety of complementary fields, including genetics, epigenetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, age-associated disease; and technological disciplines such as genomics, proteomics, protein interaction networks and bio-informatics. The Buck Institute, which was designed by world famous architect I.M Pei, is located in Novato, California, 25 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

 

The Associate Director of Annual Giving is a mid level position in the External Affairs Office.  The Associate Director works independently under the general direction of the VP for External Affairs and is responsible for the Acorn Society and the Annual Giving program to $5,000.

 

 

Essential Duties:

§         Works with the VP of External Affairs to establish annual fund strategy, including direct mail, viral marketing and Acorn Society (Giving circle of $500+).

 

§         Manages all aspects of the Acorn Society including:

o       telephone and personal solicitation, cultivation and stewardship

o       direct mail and email as appropriate

o       increases membership by more than 75% per year 

o       planning and executing house parties at donors homes 

o       staff VP for External Affairs and/or President and COO at events

o       solicit weekly tour groups

 

§         Establishes and maintains a calendar for Viral Marketing and Direct Mail. 

 

§         Works with VP for External Affairs to create Viral marketing campaigns to acquire new donors

 

§         Writes solicitation letters and brochure copy

 

§         Manages all budgets for associated programs.

 

§         Maintains records on Raisers Edge for constituents.

 

§         Perform other duties as required or assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required

 

Experience:

Minimum three to five years progressively responsible non profit fundraising experience required. Experience with mailings and database required, preference for strong computer/web and online skills.  Excellent “people” skills, excellent communication skills. High degree of confidentiality.  Some local travel.  Ability to interact with people of all socio economic and ethnic backgrounds required.  Ability to work occasional evening or weekend events required.

 

Salary level - 60’s – low 70’s  based upon strength of skills set and current relevant experience.
