We are seeking a senior manager who leads a team of highly experienced, doctoral-level scientists in the development and execution of a meticulously structured applications project pipeline, including a strong working relationship with internal business function leadership to identify and prioritize voice of customer, align deliverables and timelines, be accountable for execution; domain includes applications notes, marketing collateral, product tutorials, troubleshooting, proof of concept in support of sales cycle, peer-reviewed journal articles and posters, website development and maintenance, hands-on training, Waltham Technology Center management…

 

 

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and execute a world-class applications program focused on PerkinElmer Bio-discovery reagents products and technologies; combine reagents focus with associated PerkinElmer instruments and software platforms

· Collaborate with global Product Management, Marketing, Sales, R&D and E-commerce leaders to systematically ascertain, prioritize and deliver technical collateral in various print and web-based formats including internal/external-facing presentations and tutorials, sell sheets, scientific meeting posters, peer-reviewed journal articles

· Manage two doctoral level scientists, who will work full time executing applications projects, as direct administrative reports.

· Functionally responsible for several other scientists from the Technical Support phone operations group, when they work on applications projects (approximately 50% of their time)

· Create and maintain an applications project pipeline by developing projects plans, deploying appropriate skill sets, achieving objectives on-time; maintain a high-level of communication with scientists and other functional leaders; create and maintain projects database with dynamic dashboards visible to Product Management

· Develop and deliver standardized web-based and hands-on training modules to internal functions, especially Customer Care and Sales

· Develop annual operating plans and strategic objectives that focus on continuously improving the customer experience with speed and economic efficiency

· Present applications data and overall product portfolio information at key customer accounts and scientific meetings

· Responsible for the daily operation, asset management and coordination of all activities within the Waltham Technology Center laboratory; interface with the Sales team on instrument traffic and customer demonstration projects; responsible for VIP tours of the laboratory

 

Critical Success Factors

· Doctorate in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or similar discipline with expertise in cellular function and pathway characterization

· 3-5 years experience managing senior level scientists and interacting with functional leadership in a fast-paced industrial environment; proven track record of success in scientific and business process innovation, delivering to expectations, customer relationship building

· Communication Skills: excellent people / oral and written communication skills to interface with the Customer, Product Management, R&D, Operations, Customer Care and other functional organizations on other continents; must be able to quickly reduce highly technical information into common terminology and adjust to varying levels of technical ability

· Capacity to quickly gain a working knowledge of the complex PerkinElmer Bio-discovery reagents product portfolio, underlying technology platforms and overall business strategy

· Change Management:  exhibits an assertive personality with a strong bias for action and a results-orientation; holds self personally accountable for delivering results on time every time despite obstacles; recognizes that this is a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is able to effectively prioritize changing daily workload without sacrificing long term objectives
