Application Systems Analyst III

 

Joslin Diabetes Center is an internationally recognized diabetes treatment, research and education institution affiliated with Harvard Medical School and headquartered in Boston, MA. Joslin is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes and improving the lives of people with diabetes through its cutting edge basic and clinical research, patient care programs for children and adults, and through programs and publications that improve the care of diabetes worldwide.

The Application Systems Analyst III is responsible for the design, management, development and support of enterprise and departmental applications and web sites (either purchased or custom built) used by Joslin, including coordination of internal resources and efforts of external vendors.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Works with user communities, develops and prioritizes detailed requirements for potential and approved application projects, and communicates requirements to development team members.

2. Conducts feasibility studies for proposed projects; develops potential high-level application architecture, proposes alternatives, estimates effort. Collaborates with the business unit to define high-level project requirements and to select vendors.

3. Provides project management as required for approved application development projects, including defining schedules and resource requirements, and reviews deliverables for conformance to business requirements and Joslin standards.

4. Assumes responsibility for project success, working collaboratively to establish consensus for success factors, including but not limited to budgetary, quality, and calendar constraints.

5. Trains and mentors other application project team members, users, and managers in methodologies, techniques, and procedures to improve business processes and business process automation efforts; in technologies, techniques, and procedures to improve application quality, increase project team productivity, and reduce application maintenance costs; in the use of software applications and tools to provide application self-service by users where possible or appropriate (for example, to enhance reporting, or to monitor and correct application data quality).

6. Serves as primary contact to update applications as requested by multiple departments to provide minor enhancements and bug fixes. Generates ideas for possible enhancements. Tests new areas of applications developed by project teams to ensure that new enhancements work.

Qualifications Include:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Liberal Arts or equivalent experience.
· 8 years of application development and/or application development management experience
· Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
· Experience with AS/400 – DB2 and related tools, Microsoft XP Server – MS SQL Server, VB.NET, ASP.NET
· Skill in database, web page, and report design and implementation
· Experience with cross-platform development tools (source control, test tools, etc.)
· Experience with Development and Administrative tools as required for the target platforms supported at Joslin.
· Ability to evaluate and apply new technologies quickly as required.
· Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines to ensure updates are processed to meet corporate needs.
· Ability to communicate on one-to-one basis with outside contractors to ensure efficient technical administration of applications.
· Ability to analyze and determine solutions to troubleshoot user
