Sr. Specialist - Retail Risk Analyst
Job Description:
Works closely with supervision and examination staff. Applies comprehensive knowledge to participate in and direct the supervisory review of financial institutions’ systems utilizing quantitative risk management techniques. Assesses supervisory policies and practices around the System that relate to quantitative risk management techniques at banking organizations and represents the System in working with other bank regulatory agencies. Evaluates banking organizations’ preparations for implementing Basel II as it relates to retail credit products. Independently designs and conducts specialized analysis and research in the area of retail credit quantification, initiates and performs policy-oriented research projects, advises senior bank management, and serves as an expert resource for Bank and System staff. Prepares and presents accurate and comprehensive conclusions, recommendations, and related reports. Oversees the work of other experienced economic analysts in the department. Leads or actively participates on related System projects or task forces.
Takes a lead role in the assessment of banking organizations’ preparedness and ongoing compliance with the new Basel framework (Basel II).
Contributes to System task forces by performing cutting-edge applied research on quantitative modeling of retail credit risk. Prepares research papers/articles for presentations to Bank and System senior management and staff. Presentations may include outside seminars and conferences or for publication in professional journals.
Serves as expert resource for department management and senior officer by monitoring and evaluating trends in credit card industry and developments in regulatory environment.
Works independently or with other examination personnel; meets on a regular basis with management and technical experts at major banking organizations, both to evaluate bank practices and to keep appraised of the latest techniques.
Works with other bank regulators in developing supervisory policies and practices in the area of advanced credit risk management. Represents the Bank and the System on inter agency working groups in these areas.
Acts as project leader for complex research projects; formulates research designs; assesses work of other professional staff.
Demonstrates effective SRC Core Competency skills for grade and position.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Actively involved in the accomplishment of departmental and Bankwide quality initiatives.
Fulfills job duties and responsibilities in conformance with sound safety practices.
Position Requirements:
Education & Experience:
PhD. in economics, finance, or a related field, or a Masters’ degree in economics, finance, or related field with a minimum of seven years of experience using economic theory to analyze trends in regional, national, and international economic activity, is required.
Previous experience working in bank supervision is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
Specialized knowledge in conducting quantitative analysis of financial risk in banking organizations.
Knowledge of economic and financial data and its sources, including familiarity with Call Reports.
Demonstrated ability to lead examination, research, or policy projects.
Very strong verbal and written communications skills including strong abilities to communicate sophisticated technical ideas to a variety of audiences.
Ability to interact with senior bank management and work cooperatively with supervisors in other bank regulatory agencies.
Advanced knowledge of econometric and statistical software for analyzing bank financial data.
Ability to work independently on written and oral reports and initiate original research.
Other Requirements:
Periodic participation on bank examinations or bank holding company inspections, which may require overnight travel.
