Sr. Loss Mitigation Specialist
A position requiring minimal supervision and a high degree of independent judgmental, negotiating and decision-making abilities to determine the best course of action relative to loss mitigation activities on defaulted, high LTV 1st and/or 2nd mortgage loans. This position requires exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills. Activities require an ability to handle high-volume default events and often confrontational situations with mortgage servicers, borrowers, attorneys, Realtors and other 3rd party individuals in a professional and appropriate manner to protect the company’s interest.

Develop and maintain relationships with default servicing representatives, lending entities and/or vendors with a proactive focus on avoiding or minimizing losses. Includes prompt identification and appropriate handling of loss mitigation opportunities stemming primarily from modifications, short sales and deeds in lieu of foreclosure. Activities also include information gathering and analysis, telephone and written communications, proposals, notifications and conveyance of best practices.
Analysis of available information (borrower personal and financial information, credit report, property evaluation and circumstances surrounding the default) for decision-making purposes on potentially large company loss events ranging from $10,000 to $200,000 (includes discussions of certain situations with the AVP -Loss Mitigation) with a constant awareness of meeting fiduciary responsibilities to the insured.
Maintain system and reports to effectively manage and record loss mitigation activities and results.
Performs additional duties as requested, including but not limited to special projects or default and /or claims related activities.
Recommend strategies, processes and/or procedural changes to improve loss mitigation results
Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years front line experience with high LTV mortgage loss mitigation activities in a high-volume servicing environment (any mortgage product) with a working knowledge and understanding of collections, bankruptcy and foreclosure activities including Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), U.S. Bankruptcy Codes and all mortgage loan workout types (modifications, short sales, short refinances, deeds in lieu, etc.). Prior supervisory and mortgage insurance experience desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong negotiating and organizational abilities.
Proficient with the following computer applications: MS Excel, Word, and Outlook (e-mail).
Minimum of 2 years managerial or supervisory experience (in any capacity).
General knowledge of mortgage insurance coverages required (primary and pool).
