SVP Commercial Loan & Trade Services

Job Summary
Position reports to EVP & Group Head of Operations and Customer Service.
Manage multiple departments in multiple sites responsible for complex commercial loan documentation, commercial loan operations, commercial real estate loan administration, agency services administration and trade services operations. Identify, plan and set strategic direction for service, products and technology implementation and testing necessary to support business units
and streamline commercial lending and trade operations units while ensuring appropriate risk management in a heightened regulatory environment.

Job Responsibilities:
Operations and production management for bank wide commercial lending and trade products across diverse lines of business; interfacing with executive and senior management throughout the bank; financial planning and development; recommendations for the development or modification to credit/bank policy to support loan and trade documentation and operations; technical project planning and management; risk management; customer service; divisional policy and procedure development; and legal document library development and management.

Major Responsibilities
• Strategic planning and implementation: Identify, plan, set and implement strategic direction for production, service, process, and technology testing and implementation necessary to support commercial lending and trade operations units.
• Support significant bank wide change and technology initiatives related to strategic loan process and technology re-engineering.
• Manage and oversee: Multiple teams supporting complex legal loan documentation for bank wide commercial lending.
• Business units supported include Business, Middle Market, Corporate, Energy and Entertainment.

Responsibilities include:
• Production of documents, working with internal / external counsel for alterations to documents, interfacing with and review of outside counsel prepared documents, interfacing with business unit partners, collateral perfection and management, collateral and flood insurance, doc prep system development, maintenance and user acceptance testing, compliance with regulations and establishing and modifying document /credit related bank policy.
• Commercial loan operations (CLO) for the above referenced business units.
• Multiple teams’ responsibilities within CLO include, providing excellent customer service to both internal and external commercial customers, direct borrower interface and compliance with all regulations (e.g. SOX, FASB, BAS/AML).
• Services include: Booking loans, borrower invoices, advances, rate roll-overs, pay downs, payoffs, balancing AFS related accounts, account certifications, system support for upgrades and modifications including user acceptance testing.
• Multiple teams supporting commercial real estate loan administration.
• Loan administration supports bank wide commercial real estate loan documentation for both permanent and construction loans.
• Documents are prepared on a doc prep system, in Word and by outside counsel.
• Additional tasks include working with counsel to modify legal language in documents, disbursements, rate rollovers, construction budget management, extensive borrower interface and collateral management.
• Agency team supporting large complex transactions where Union Bank acts as agent in syndicated credits.

Tasks include:
• Review of all legal documents prior to initial funding; frequent customer and investor interaction for all operational needs; pay downs, advances, rate rollovers; invoicing; and maintenance of Intra-Links web site for posting all borrower related documents for investor review.
• Trade Service operations which provide trade products bank wide.
• Products include collections, import, export and standby letters of credit.
• Services include letter of credit issuance, negotiation, payments, collections, and banker’s acceptances.
• Trade has responsibility for; excellent customer service, extensive compliance (BSA, OFAC, etc.) and negotiation of complex language in standby letters of credit. Management of the Proponix Trade System including: Vendor management, business requirements and user acceptance testing.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Provide direction for: Complex customer problems and excellent customer service.
• Provide support, guidance and training to marketing and credit officers.
• Be an integral participant of bank wide documentation, legal, credit, compliance and data integrity forum.
• Communicate and implement Bank, Group and Divisional policies to all staff.
• Keep up to date on all significant issues and developments and apprise group head of same.
• Ensure all reporting requirements are met in a timely manner, internal and external audits are satisfactory, Bank policy and regulatory requirements are complied with, appropriate staff training and development is performed.

Requirements:
• Demonstrated skills in management, motivation, networking, achieving objectives and driving for results.
• Successful history of “change” development, implementation and management.
• Excellent industry expertise and strong contacts to track industry strategic direction, trends and new product development.
• 15 years of successful experience in commercial loan documentation and loan and trade operations with excellent skills in developing and implementing change; customer service; multiple team, site and departmental management; systems development and implementation.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to reach an audience through effective and clear presentations, writing skills and excellent communication strategies.
• Demonstrated systems testing and implementation skills.
