Job Description:Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI) is seeking a Manager of Counterparty Risk in the Business Unit Risk Management Department. This senior risk manager will report to the Senior Risk Officer for NTGI in Chicago. The individual will manage the counterparty limit setting and monitoring for derivatives, foreign exchange and broker relationships of the asset management business of Northern Trust Corporation. The manager will be expected to assist in the ongoing monitoring of counterparty exposures across the line of business. NTGI is seeking a candidate with direct experience independently monitoring large credit relationships to major financial institutions in the global marketplace, including domestic and international market makers of OTC derivatives.Major Duties:1. Monitor levels of exposure (product, tenor and counterparty) and where necessary establish/adjust limits for exposure to each counterparty (both at the individual portfolio level and at the aggregate firm wide level) for the global business. 2. Create Firm-Wide Credit Limits for Brokerage, FX and OTC Derivative Trading. 3. Assessment of counterparty credit worthiness and approval - prospective and existing counterparties; quantitative as well as qualitative. 4. Measure and monitor Counterparty Credit Risk exposures for each portfolio to each counterparty, broken out by the various asset classes. 5. Monitor the ongoing financial performance of these counterparties and establish/adjust limits as needed. 6. Monitor aggregate counterparty exposures across all of NTGI's clients’ portfolios. 7. Interaction/coordination with NTGI Fixed Income and/or Equity Research Groups. 8. Provide guidance and supervision of credit issues for ISDA and other derivatives documentation. 9. Protecting NTGI and Northern Trust's reputation. 10. Approve Counterparty Limit Overages when appropriate. 11. Help develop a longer-term Counterparty Credit Risk Measurement and Limit Methodology and System Platform. 12. Software skills (Excel, PowerPoint) highly desirable.Knowledge/Skills:We are seeking an BA/BS, ideally MBA graduate with a major in finance or economics. Formal training in institutional credit analysis (e.g., completed a bank commercial lending or credit training program or equivalent.) The candidate must have strong analytical, quantitative, and oral/written communication skills. Demonstrated experience in making complex credit decisions and taking appropriate actions in difficult situations. Candidates should have an outstanding record of academic achievement and an expressed interest in tackling difficult real world problems of the investment management business. The candidate must also be proficient in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint. Attention to detail, a strong work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment are important characteristics. Previous work experience in a performance analytics group of an asset management firm and/or progress towards Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is desirable but not required. 5-10 years credit analysis and credit management experience with emphasis on financial institutions. Rating Agency experience covering financial institutions would be welcome.Experience:7-10 years experience in credit analysis; experience independently monitoring large credit relationships to major financial institutions in the global marketplace, including domestic and international market makers of OTC derivatives.
