IT Capacity Planner (SAN, NAS)
Description This resource will gain an understanding of the organization's data processing and storage use patterns, using in-place data repositories to generate reports of historical resource utilization, and will generate forecasts for Unix server, database, and storage resource shortfalls. Will generate data to support long-term plans to ensure business requirements are met. Needs to understand enterprise centralized storage (SAN and NAS), enterprise Unix and database platforms, and how they fit into the enterprise IT organization. It is preferable that this resource have experience with centralized storage, Unix, or database technologies (especially Oracle), and should know how to code in Perl, and utilize SQL. The resource can utilize these tools to generate reports for various audiences and should understand how to access database data natively without the need for a front-end. Should understand performance concepts for infrastructure components (server, network, storage, database), and how these are related in a configuration management database. Will mine data repositories that will help the teams support new policies for network storage system utilization, server utilization, technology refresh cycles, migration requirements, and patch cycles. This position requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager.Required - Produce an effective capacity management plan. - Identify and make recommendation on effective capacity management tools. - Determine appropriate metrics to be used for capacity analysis in a heterogeneous environment including server, storage, database and network. - Implement procedures to gather and store metric data points. - Design and create reports for current utilization for audiences at various technical levels. - Perform trend analysis on capacity for use in the budget cycle. - Adept at a scripting language and able to create your own front end for complex SQL statements used to store and retrieve data from a database.
