Square 1 Bank is a full service commercial bank specializing in venture lending with 9 regional offices plus our Durham, NC headquarters. POSITION SUMMARY The Controller will be responsible for the accounting activities of the Bank, as well as the reporting processes for internal, external and regulatory reporting. Will also be responsible for establishing accounting procedures and policies as needed, including assisting with FDICIA implementation. Will oversee the development of financial accounting systems and processes required to maintain reporting requirements. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the accounting function. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:· Responsible for financial accounting and reporting activities, including internal management reports, shareholder/external reports and regulatory reporting; · Directs and controls the activities of the accounting group through several subordinate managers;· Oversees financial analysis and general ledger activity, including interpreting and reporting of budget and general ledger variances;· Oversees the implementation, adherence and maintenance of fiscal policies and procedures, including assessing the effectiveness of the systems;· Stay current on GAAP and regulatory requirements;· Assist with the development of strategies to minimize corporate and financial risk exposure and ensuring compliance with risk policies;· Assist with tax provisions and quarterly estimates, as well as assist with the preparation of annual tax information;· Assist with FDICIA implementation within the accounting and finance group;· Participates with CFO and other executive management on strategic and other corporate initiatives as needed.

Job Requirements:


JOB SPECIFICATIONS: BA/BS in Business Administration or Accounting, MBA/CPA preferred; 8-10 years related work experience, including knowledge of regulatory compliance and accounting standards; Strong organizational skills; ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and under deadlines with little supervision; Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors; Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; Professional discretionary skills: ability to understand and deal with confidential matters; Strong attention to detail, accuracy and time management; Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills; Square 1 Bank promotes and enforces an active policy of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) for all individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.
