Consumer Lending Officer

Los Angeles Firemen’s Credit Union, the trusted provider of premier financial services to Firefighters throughout California, has a great opportunity for an experienced Consumer Lending Officer to join our “Fire Family”.  This position is responsible for superior member service involving the underwriting and loan process from start to finish.  Qualified candidates will display thorough knowledge and understanding of consumer loan operations, credit fundamentals and State and Federal regulations.  Familiarity with CU products, services and culture a plus. 

 

Position Summary:

The primary function of this position is to allow the Credit Union to live out its rallying cry, “My service will positively impact the life of each member of our Fire Family.”  To achieve this end, the position must provide outstanding service that meets our Service Promises to both internal and external members. A key component of this service is to identify the financial needs of each member and recommend an appropriate Credit Union solution.  In addition, assists members in obtaining consumer loans by facilitating the loan application process.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Underwriting - Reviews, analyzes, and makes decisions on loan applications within designated lending authority in accordance with internal operating procedures/policies, and Federal and State consumer lending regulations.

Compliance - Maintains up-do-date knowledge and understanding of internal Consumer Lending Standard Operating Policies and Procedures and Federal and State lending laws/regulations.

 

Member Relations - Educates members on the importance of their credit history.  Assists members with their financial needs by interviewing them and communicating the features and benefits of Credit Union products and services to determine the best product that meets their needs. Process loan requests within the required timeframe.

 

Loan Processing - Processes loan applications by interviewing members, inputting information into the loan origination system, and disclosing the associated terms and conditions.  Discusses denial/disputed loan decisions with members.  Discusses DMV document requirement for secure loans.

 

Sales - Actively educate and offer LAFCU products and services that meet the specific financial needs of the member on every loan.  In an effort to improve our members’ financial lives, uses value-added consultative techniques and effective communication to determine their needs, thereby supporting the Credit Union’s objective of promoting, referring and cross-selling suitable products and services.

 

Research & Resolution - Able to research and resolve loan questions, issues and/or discrepancies using all available resources, ensure that thorough research and prompt follow-up results in an efficient, satisfactory conclusion to all internal and external request.  Through effective communication, corresponds with and holds vendors accountable for their role(s) during the research process.  Corresponds regularly throughout the research process to relay the status and updates to ensure a timely resolution; and communicates appropriate actions, process/procedure changes to those affected by them for future reference.

 

Special Projects/Other Assignments - When working on other assignments to support the Credit Union’s efforts to deliver value-added products/services to members, actively and respectfully participates on project teams, contributes specialized knowledge and resources to achieve the common objective.  Based on project/assignment outcomes, ensures that all departments/individuals affected are informed.

 

Position Qualifications/skills:

Thorough working knowledge and understanding of consumer loan operations and credit fundamentals including processing loans, analyzing financial information and making credit decisions required

Basic knowledge of Federal and State consumer lending regulations (i.e., Regulation Z, Section 91 - The Fair Credit Reporting Act, etc.) required. 

Basic mathematical skills required including ability to compute ratios and percentages

Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets & software programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc...) preferred

Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Excellent organization and follow-through skills

Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, outside vendors/agencies and members

Effective oral and written communication skills

Effective analytical skills

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

 

Physical Requirements:

Eye/Hand Coordination: performing work using both hands

Handling: seizing, holding, grasping or otherwise working with both hands

Sitting: remaining in the normal seated position through out the workday

Walking: moving about on one’s feet through out the workday

Usually Moderate Work: lifting/carrying of objects up to 25-35lbs
