Collections Officer
A credit union located in the East Bay is seeking a Collections Officer.
The Collections Officer will be involved with the delinquent loans as well as charge offs and will handle all aspects of the collections process. The Collections Officer position is responsible for the day to day collections of consumer loans as well as negative share accounts. The Collections Officer will work with members to bring their accounts current and come to equitable payment arrangements while preserving the member relationship. Other responsibilities will be to file small claims reports and represent the credit union at such court hearings, auto repossessions, bankruptcies, working with the credit union legal counsel and charging off member’s accounts. This is a very hands on position that requires initiative, self direction, and excellent communication skills.
We strongly encourage candidates who have worked with consumers in a collections capacity within a financial institution environment or a third party collections agency or finance company collecting on consumer loans. Spanish speaking candidates are desirable but not necessary.
•3 – 5 years consumer and real estate collections experience within the financial services industry
•Ability to work independently, well unsupervised, very resourceful, ability to prioritize work
•Good working knowledge of compliance and credit/collections laws
•Experience working with BK’s (bankruptcies), negative share accounts, returned checks, auto repossessions, small claims, delinquent auto loans, unsecured loans, visa accounts
•Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
•Interpersonal skills – ability to work productively with members
•Detail oriented – good at keeping records within the loan files/proper documentation
•Helpful but not required to speak Spanish
•Experience working with and managing vendor relationships, outside legal counsel, repossession/auction companies
