This person is responsible for working with Japanese news outlets, translating articles and other documents, and other projects for the Internal and External Communications groups within the Division.  Required to speak, read and write Japanese and English, specifically in a professional environment. 

 

A persuasive communicator capable of writing clearly and concisely, and able to present effectively to small and large groups; who will use independent judgment to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other internal and external audiences.
Cultivate and maintain a positive bank image through effective management of the relationships between the bank, the media and internal stakeholders, e.g. business unit leaders and key executives.
 
Major Responsibilities:


Media Relations Successfully maintain existing relationships and proactively cultivate new relationships with key print and broadcast media, including Japanese media, general consumer, personal finance, business and other media as necessary.  Additionally, it is a requirement to maintain records on media contacts, press releases distributed and press coverage received.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of being a self-starter with respect to these aspects of media relations Write clearly and convincingly in Associated Press style, be able to self-edit, seek internal and external approvals, and distribute news releases as required by events and key announcements concerning the bank, its businesses and management.  Specific types of written documents include: key messages, remarks, media advisories, biographies, and internal announcements. Serve as a bank spokesperson, as needed, which may include on-camera delivery of messages in Japanese; candidate must also be adept at working within the bank's internal network to gain technical knowledge about the subject at hand, as required.

 

 Project Management and Planning Demonstrate the ability to work with entire business units (and sub-units or specialized areas within) to develop strategic communications plans that are in alignment with the unit's business objectives.  To be successful, there must be a commitment to keeping in regular contact with key leaders and staff, and anticipating and following trends in their respective areas. 
Be opportunistic and creative in long-range planning, as well as short-term planning.  Understand the "whole view" of promoting key initiatives, financial products and services and subject-matter experts, reaching both external and internal audiences.
Develop, align and deploy business and communications strategy.


 

Additional Responsibilities Review daily, weekly and monthly publications, particularly Japanese media, for articles of interest to executive management Keep abreast of political trends and public policy matters that impact the banking and financial services industry
Direct outside communications consultants, who work in support of the bank's business units.
Conceive and implement actionable, creative public relations campaigns that support the bank's overall business objectives and those of the individual business units.

Additional Information:
 


Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related communication field and at least 5-10 years of combined experience in media relations, corporate communications and/or public affairs.

 

Position may be located in Los Angeles or San Francisco
