QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssure proper electrical/electronic interface and operation of powertrain electronics. Design and develop new electrical/electronic controls for powertrain applications. Manage and direct the activities of contract engineers and designers to ensure timely delivery of proper designs and releases. Review designs proposed by suppliers and work with suppliers to develop these designs to Daimler Trucks North America’s expectations. Perform and act on system and circuit analysis of complex electrical/electronic systems for trucks. Participate in vehicle system FMEA’s and analysis of supplier FMEA’s. Provide product support to test, manufacturing, field service, sales applications, and other departments. Participate in activities to improve the technological, analytical and operational abilities of Daimler Trucks North America. Keep up to date in technical areas of specialty and improve familiarity of other areas.REQUIREMENTS: •Product Development Projects – 85%Category 1 to Category 2BManage the concept, design, and release phases of product development programs ranging required for category 1 (major programs) to category 2B (minor options and product modifications). This includes the project management which requires extensive communication within Daimler Trucks North America organizations as well as supplier interface, design review activity, and execution of the quality gate system. This includes product design direction and release management to ensure that the program needs are met with proper designs, released per program requirements•Manage Staff – 10%Hire, manage and develop contract engineers and professional staff to ensure maximum productivity and career development.•Ensure Current Engineering Knowledge Base – 5%Study current technological developments and generate new ideas and methods for vehicle design and systems. Stay aware of changing truck industry trends and customer needs through media and customer interactions.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with electrical/electronic control experience. Candidate must have more than six years experience in design and development of electrical/electronic systems for automotive and/or truck applications. Ability to analyze circuits and control systems required. Knowledge of vehicle communications systems, sensors, and real time controllers is also required. Design, validation, or service experience with either engine or transmission electronic control is desirable. Experience integrating vehicle electronics in to vehicles is also desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as personal computer office automation skills required. Job requires a class A commercial drivers license, but this can be obtained on the job.
