Sr. Commodity Manager
POSITION SUMMARY Strategically manage various commodities while identifying and developing production material Suppliers that meet and/or exceed BorgWarner TTS’ long-term expectations. Responsible for developing and managing commodity strategies via Strategic Commodity Business Plans to assure a globally competitive, world-class production material Supply Base. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Manage commercial relations with production material suppliers including Security Agreements, Requests For Quotations, Quotation Analysis, Negotiations, Prototype/Production Procurement, Contract Development and Annual Improvement Factor Establish highest value Suppliers including Manufacturing capabilities/capacity, financial condition and Sales/Engineering knowledge and support. Develop maintain, communicate and execute Strategic Commodity Business Plans. Includes developing qualified Suppliers globally within assigned commodity to meet and/or exceed TTS requirements for current production and new program launches Facilitate change managementby taking on a project manager role for SREA’s, supplier re-sourcing initiatives, out-sourcing projects, etc. Manage each project through to implementation Participate and support corporate commodity Cross-Business Team activities to leverage the total BorgWarner global spend. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional and worldwide economic conditions and business situations that impact materials used within assigned commodities Participate and support the divisional Low Cost Country Sourcing Strategy initiatives for assigned commodities, and incorporate into Strategic Commodity Business Plans Manage risk and protect corporate interests through knowledge of contract law and its applications. Develop expertise in factors relevant to assigned commodity such as product knowledge, applications / usage, processing knowledge, cost structure, global market, supplier capabilities, supplier market share, supplier benchmarking, etc. Work as part of cross-functional teams from multiple TTS disciplines as means of managing suppliers Manage the BorgWarner / Supplier relationships within assigned commodities and protecting both the short-term and long-term interests of BorgWarner and its Shareholders Work with STA Engineers to ensure Supplier documentation is received on time and is compliant to TTS requirements. Achieve minimum 5% annual material cost reduction from external Suppliers and 2% annual material cost reduction for internal Suppliers for each assigned commodity Pursue new technologies that support Cost Reduction Initiatives and BorgWarner’s Product Leadership/Innovation position. Negotiate Long-Term Agreements and/or Full Service Supplier contracts, where appropriate, for assigned commodities Represent Global Supply Management on Product Launch Teams and Simultaneous Engineering Groups Proactively coordinate, facilitate, and manage supplier value improvement activities Work with TTS Cost Estimating and Engineering in support of production material quotation process during Cost Estimating phase Coordinate and lead the selection process for production material suppliers, and maintain and update the Preferred Supplier Quote lists on the BorgWarner intranet for each assigned commodity Coordinate leveraging of production material suppliers to support the most cost effective supply of prototype components Actively pursue new technologies in the supply base that support the advancement of BorgWarner’s Product Leadership/Innovation position in the marketplace and Cost Reduction Initiatives Occasional travel to Suppliers Increase BorgWarner Economic Value through Supplier-Initiated Product Improvements, Material Cost Reductions and/or Productivity Improvements Facilitate Engineering Change Requests EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree with increasing responsibility in an automotive production environment Degree in Supply Chain Management desired 5 - 7 years Global Supply Management experience working in Automotive Production Purchasing Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) a plus Fluency in Foreign Language a plus Work as a team player Critical Analysis Skills Excellent Negotiation SkillsKEY COMPETENCIES Functional/Technical Skills Decision Quality Interpersonal Savvy Business Acumen Priority Setting Drive for Results Ethics and Values Conflict ManagementTimely Decision MakingAction Oriented Position Information Company: BorgWarner Location: Detroit, MI 48201 Job Status/Type: Full Time, Employee Job Category: Other Occupations: Other Industry: Automotive and Parts Mfg Career Level: Experienced (Non-Manager) Contact Information Company: BorgWarner Reference Code: 0800GX
