You will unleash the potential of your talents as never before.The Light Duty Diesel (LDD) Engineering team is focused on delivering a Class 1 VPI program for 2010. The LDD group is divided into several sub-system and development teams. One of the system teams included is the Combustion/Performance/Emissions (CPE) team.Key Responsibilities:1) Develop controls process for CPE and OBD specific controls2) Develop calibration values for the CPE parameters.3) Work with Cummins and Suppliers to develop engine and vehicle tests and processes4) Participate in the calibration review and release process for the CPE specific parameters5) Track and report on progress with respect to system deliverables.6) Communicate directly with OEM customers as well as internal customers7) Directly responsible for OBD function (S/W and calibrations) in assigned components.8) Support VPI Program Schedules and TQS processes.9) Support and report on DVPR and FIRG issues.10) Work thru ESW items and aid in development of new guidelines for LDD.11) Plan/Communicate/Execute SKILLS:1) Experience: 5 years minimum in Design / Development role, with 2 years minimum of direct CPE Development Engineering position experience.3) BSME, MSME or equivalent4) Strong background, skills and knowledge of automotive diesel engine emission controls.5) Knowledge of the Light-Duty emissions cycles, requirements, and vehicle test procedures is highly desirable, but not required.6) Knowledgeable in aftertreatment catalysts, including DOC, NAC and DPFs.7) Knowledgeable in common rail fuel systems.8) DFSS Green Belt training / experience is highly desired, but not required.9) Familiarity with the VPI process.10) Working knowledge of source approval requirements, ESW, DVPR and FIRG processes.11) Working knowledge of Cummins engineering release system, plant deviations, material standards, specifications, IMS, PDM, etc.12) Working knowledge of diesel engine systems and components.13) Skilled in use of HSDA, Cell, ASSET, GT-Power, GT-Drive is desired.14) Good documentation and organizational skills.15) Process development and improvement capability.16) Strong people skills including integrity, judgment, flexibility and conflict management.17) Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodology.18) Use/Encourage Analysis Led Design techniques.19) Ability to interact within and support cross-functional teams.20) Self directed, able to work independently or with minimal supervision.21) Effective time management skills, ability to work with multiple projects.22) Ability to work effectively with other teams towards overall engine integration.23) Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and other Cummins and non-Cummins groups/personnel at multiple locations.24) Ability to mentor others and to seek out mentors to address specific gaps.25) Ability to lead and direct the work of test cell and vehicle technicians to complete specific assignments/projects.TRAVEL REQUIRED (%): 5% to 20%Benefits/Company information:Explore superior growth opportunities and enjoy progressive advantages like our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, stock options, Domestic Partners coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
