Position:  Hybrid Powertrain Development Engineer

 Reporting To:  Manager – Powertrain Development

 

Core Competencies

The Hybrid Powertrain Development Engineer will work as part of a team and be directly responsible for powertrain development including emissions, calibration, dynamometer and vehicle testing, and certification for hybrid vehicles.  Work effects product quality, cost, timing and conformance to customer, corporate, industry, regulatory, federal and regional requirements.

 

§  Developing powertrain designs including components and sub-systems to meet customer requirements.

§  Performing complex design analysis, creates specifications, and conducts calibration for alternative fuel and hybrid powertrains.

§  Development and execution of verification and validation tests.

§  Provides direction for design, fabrication and installation of powertrain components.

§  Understanding of operations, manufacturing procurement and quality processes.

§  Communicates with internal and external customers.

§  Assisting the development and presentation of customer technical/technology reviews, proposals and meetings.

§  Assisting customer technical issues communication and problem resolution.

§  Generates, reviews and approves engineering product release and change requests.

§  Employees will participate as required in understanding, implementing and maintaining the Quantum Quality Policy in accordance with QS-9000 and/or ISO-9001 requirements.

 

Knowledge:

§  Understanding of powertrain technology, vehicle engineering, development, certification, OEM calibration, alternative fuels calibration and hybrid powertrain development.

§  Working knowledge of powertrain test equipment including engine and chassis dynamometers.

§  Knowledge of powertrain modeling techniques including Matlab/Simulink applications.

§  Understanding of automotive engineering, validation and safety, industry, emissions and regulatory compliance.

§  Understanding of manufacturing, procurement and quality systems and processes.

§  Understanding of fair employment and safety regulations.

§  Understanding of customer service principles.

 

Abilities:

§  Technical planning abilities.

§  Ability to schedule, organize and plan individually and in teams.

§  Ability to set targets, follow-through and enforce execution.

Education and/or Experience:

§  Prefer BS degree (EE, ME or equivalent).

§  0-5 years experience in automotive engineering and powertrain controls.

§  Matlab/Simulink powertrain modeling experience preferred.

 

Physical Job Requirements:

The position is expected to visit current and potential customers, including travel to customers and distributors internationally. The position is expected to access, enter, and retrieve data by using a computer terminal.
