The Auto Parts Group, a $300+ million, fast-growing division of Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc., is seeking a Director of Sales & Marketing. Schnitzer is a 100 year old publicly traded company with revenues in excess of $1.5 billion. The Auto Parts Group is a fast growing division within Schnitzer that is focused on consolidating the highly fragmented recycled auto parts market. The Auto Parts Group consists of two operating divisions, Pick-n-Pull Auto Dismantlers and GreenLeaf Auto Recyclers, our self-service and full-service auto and truck dismantling division respectively.
The Director of Sales & Marketing has the key leadership role for developing the long-term marketing and sales vision and strategy for the company, and aligning the strategy and initiatives to the revenue objectives. This position will be responsible for leading the development and growth of a team of marketing and sales professionals who are responsible for branding, marketing communications, competitive market intelligence and analysis, pricing, research and identification of new product/service offerings, and sales management and training of the retail store sales and customer service teams. The marketing team will be responsible for developing an integrated strategy that engages customers and drives traffic into the stores to produce the sales results, and engages potential sellers of End of Life vehicles driving additional vehicle purchasing leads into the companies call center. The sales team will lead the sales execution efforts and ensuring the retail store sales representatives are well trained on sales processes and Best Practices, including the improvement of the customer experience. The Director of Sales & Marketing will report to the Chief Development Officer/Chief Operations Officer for the retail division of the Auto Parts Group, and will work closely with senior management and the store operations team to achieve the store traffic and revenue objectives of the company, while working closely with the vehicle purchasing team to achieve the required leads into the vehicle purchasing call center.
Essential Functions of the Director of Sales & Marketing:
Leadership
§ Create and maintain clear objectives and priorities for the work group
§ Develop and hire organizational capability to fulfill on department responsibilities and commitments
§ Motivate work group and execute against the plan
Planning and Execution
§ Develop strategic marketing and sales plan to drive long term top line growth.
§ Establish key department metrics and goals, and a tactical plan to execute against the goals
§ Lead the cross functional integration of marketing activities inside the company
Brand Management
§ Establish overall brand strategy for retail division.
§ Develop strategic positioning and differentiation strategy, and ensuring value proposition resonates consistently in all content, promotions, and messaging.
Advertising, Promotions, and Communication
§ Develop, manage, and optimize multi-channel marketing strategies and communications (TV, Radio, Print, Online, Company Website, Yellow Page, SEO, In Store)
§ Manage promotional budget and maximize ROI on spend, assess and measure marketing campaign effectiveness making adjustments where necessary
§ Establish customer segmentation strategies to increase market share within key segments
§ Select and negotiate contracts with agency partners, and present to executive management for approval.
§ Develop loyalty programs for acquisition and retention, and establish strategic partnerships with vendors and service providers to effectively implement program
§ Create robust customer database to more effectively market to customer segments and launch promotions
§ Create in store promotions and merchandizing strategy
Market Intelligence
§ Lead market intelligence process, including identification and communication of market trends and dynamics
§ Ensure awareness of competitors and competitors positioning in each market through analysis of strategies, inventory, pricing, service, promotions, and current events
§ Conduct consumer research and focus groups to fine tune strategic positioning and value proposition and to identify new products/service offerings
Pricing Strategy
§ Establish pricing strategy and ensure compliance with price strategy across all markets and regions
§ Collect competitive pricing data by market
§ Establish price elasticity curves by product line in order to optimize and maximize profitability
Sales Management
§ Establish key sales metrics and goals for each store and region.
§ Champion the sales culture within the organization
§ Lead weekly sales meetings with sales and operations leadership
§ Lead sales training of store sales and customer service advisors.
§ Maintain business ownership of Point of Sale (POS) system, establishing key processes for the POS system
So, what will it take to be successful?
§ Bachelor degree, MBA preferred
§ At least 5 years of experience at the executive level
§ At least 8-10 years experience in the marketing field, agency experience a plus
§ Experience in a retail oriented marketing organization, role, or consulting
§ History of managing a marketing budget in excess of $5 million annually
§ Demonstrated success in building a marketing team
§ Ability to think strategically and translate research and consumer insights into effective marketing and communication strategies
§ Strong general marketing skills to include brand/strategic marketing, media buying/advertising, consumer insight/research, and base level experience with CRM
§ Experience interfacing effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to line managers
§ Experience developing business plan for new initiatives or products, including business case development, financial pro-formas and launch marketing plans.
§ Merchandizing experience a plus
§ Sales management experience in a retail environment
§ Proven history of execution. A take charge personality that is highly decisive, and follow through on execution oriented projects until they are completed.
§ Outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills to use credible, insightful analysis to drive business-impacting direction and decisions.
§ Ability to work effectively in an unstructured, matrixed, and changing environment, and an ability to identify promising ideas with limited information, and champion and develop those ideas successfully.
