In addition, the position has responsibility for taxes, delivery of all financial reports and management information and related analyses. Such reports, information and analysis will generally be regularly scheduled or requested by management; however, there will be instances where analysis, investigation and related information production should be independently initiated by this position as a result of:Monitoring the accounting recordsRecognizing that given conditions, events or decisions will have consequences unforeseen by management and which require reports or interpretative informationThe position will interact continuously with several other internal, administrative and management positions. It is critical that the incumbent be able to work collaboratively and seamlessly with the staff in these positions.The Controller is in a unique position within the company; this individual will typically possess technical knowledge and ability not available in any other position. A number of general, continuing and pervasive responsibilities inevitably accrue to this position as a result of this unique position - specific examples are: The Controller has ultimate responsibility to ensure that the General Ledger, related subsidiary ledgers, all resulting Financial Statements, and the related numbers are correct. In this regard, whatever checking, review, analysis, questioning and investigation as may appear appropriate should occur as a matter of course before release.The Controller has an obligation to protect Management and the Company from significant errors in transaction accounting treatment. Unsolicited action, advice and counsel in this regard is expected; obviously, insignificant or immaterial items do not warrant unnecessary time.In effect, the Controller should serve as an "early warning line" relative to anticipated problems or opportunities in all tax areas.The Controller will be responsible for overseeing / processing / resolving all company legal affairs, licensing requirements, and managing corporate legal structure.The Controller should have specialized training and knowledge in the areas of internal and financial control. Significant potential for fraud, embezzlement, and asset misappropriation should be resolved and/or brought to the attention of management.The Controller should have specialized training and knowledge on local, state, federal regulations governing our industry.The Controller is responsible for designing / implementing / monitoring systems / processes / procedures to manage and control all accounting / HR / compliance functions at the store level. This is included but not limited to training personnel at the store level to perform these functionsIn all instances thorough attention should be focused on meticulous documentation for accounting records and for underlying media, records and files.Oversee / manage / protect cash flow of company.Manage / evaluate / control / reduce expenses within corporate office as well as at the store level including but not limited to reviewing / evaluating / correcting costs relating to various vendors, utilities, salaries, legal, office supplies, etc.As is the case with virtually all of the other headquarters staff positions, the Controller Accountant position is "stand alone" (i.e. self-managing). It is up to the incumbent to accept full responsibility for all functions assigned and to do independently whatever is necessary to ensure that those responsibilities are completed on time and with good quality. The position should be "under control" at all times; whatever additional time and/or other resources necessary should be automatically applied in order to keep all assignments and continuing responsibilities at an acceptable condition. It is also important that the incumbent plan, anticipate and foresee potential problems and blockages, and initiate appropriate action in advance so as to preclude difficulties at a later date.It is not anticipated that the Controller will have the knowledge to handle all of the following on a stand-alone basis. This position has responsibility for the indicated items; everything that can be done competently without outside professional assistance should be done. The Chief Accountant should pursue outside assistance at any point where it becomes clear such help may be necessary. When in doubt, the matter should be discussed with management.
