Controls Engineer - Great Opportunity
Put your experience to good use today! Summit Engineering Associates is searching for an experienced Controls Engineer to lead our hardware engineering department. Be a part of a fast paced small company based out of Rochester Hills, MI. right in the heart of the automotive capital of the world.
The Position
A successful candidate must possess the ability and experience to design machine control systems from scratch. Knowledge of industry standards such as IEC, NFPA, NEC, ISO & NEMA is critical. Circuit design experience must include the ability to design redundant E-Stop circuits, drive circuits and incorporate various PLC controllers and I/O systems into the application. Design experience with Profibus and DeviceNet is mandatory. Your skill set must include the following engineering capabilities; transformer sizing, power supply sizing, wire sizing, Bill of Material development, heat calculations, etc. Knowledge of AutoCAD is mandatory. Fluid Power Design experience is also required.Specific Duties will Include:
· Assist the management team in the preparation of quotations by estimating design hours and manpower requirements.
· Set-up new projects by developing the system architecture, layouts, I/O Buss systems, wiring plans, panel and junction box placements, component selection, etc.
· Work individually or with a team of design engineers to design and detail projects in AutoCAD 2D.
· Interface with our software design engineers to insure accurate and efficient I/O addressing.
· Perform calculations to size and select system components such as transformers, disconnects, power supplies, fusing, servo systems, short circuit current protection, cable lengths, heat calculations, etc.
· Create accurate Bills of Material
· Check designs prior to submissions to the customer.
· Participate in the Customer Approval process.
· Follow up designs during the construction of the Control Panels and the wiring of the machines.
· Finalize the as-built design documentation.
· Perform project analysis upon project closings and implement procedures to eliminate errors in subsequent projects.
· To aid in the development of methods and procedures used to create and archive electronic documentation.
· Insure the timely completion of projects that are under budget.
Other Requirements:
· Build and maintain solid communications and relationships with customers.
· Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming.
· Experience with Machine Startup and Debug.
· Some travel is necessary.
