Configuration Engineer

A local Lansing area company who are leaders in the design and manufacture of various chassis and cab structures for specialized vehicles including military, fire and ambulance vehicles are seeking a full time Configuration Engineer. The person we are seeking must have the following qualifications:


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
•Proactively and continuously gain enhanced product knowledge about Spartan Chassis systems and components through discussion, research and training with other internal associates
•Fully capable in troubleshooting configuration rules (option compatibility) issues and implementing corrective action
•Fully capable of editing and auditing engineering design chart data (specifications or BOM/option database) and implementing corrective actions for audits
•Fully capable of working with Engineering system lead to establish bill of material configuration rules and design charts in the product configuration development tool
•Ability to understand product offerings and engineering constraints to be able to apply them in the product configuration development tool (options/BOM database)
•Direct involvement in the creation and development of process flows for the management of data within the product configuration development tool
•Capability of becoming fully proficient in the operation of current Spartan Engineering design software, with 3D component and large assembly tools, to create feasibility layouts
•Coordinate product design information with other affected departments (Sales, Purchasing, Scheduling, Production, Customer Service) to assure customer requirements are met, including support of customer / project teams

Qualifications Required:
•2 to 5 years experience in configuration, specification, or Bill of Material control positions using database management
•Maintain extremely high level of data entry accuracy and technical writing capabilities
•Demonstrate very good communication skills and have the ability to talk with customers to verify option intent is correct.
•1 to 3 years experience in 3D solid modeling (Solid works preferred, Pro/E, UG, CATIA, IDEAS) - large assembly experience is desirable.
Proficient in  MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint)


The person we are seeking must have at least 2 years of configuration related experience. The person we are seeking will take the customer's needs and/or product desires and configure the information related to the existing product and/or developments to make sure that the chosen options will configure with the cab and/or chassis of the vehicle.

This position is full time, direct hire, relocation assistance and the starting salary range is $40K-$80K to start based on experience along with great benefits and quarterly bonus.
