SUMMARY: 

The Chemist will be responsible for new formulations and reformulations, product commercialization and regulatory compliance.  This position will also provide technical support to sales and will work with vendors keeping both local and international interests in mind.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Responsible for the design and execution of key research programs to develop new and unique formulations and products; includes product commercialization.Develops formulas, processes, and methods for solution of technical problems. Conducts research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes along with research on manufactured products to improve same. Designs and devises processes for the manufacture of chemical products such as oil and transmission treatments/additives. Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests. Performs work requiring the application of a specialized field of chemical analysis and ingenuity in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard methods and techniques. Performs competently with complex instruments and methods and is responsible for data interpretation, quality control and reporting of own works. Plans and conducts complex analyses requiring advanced instrumentation. Handles routine and advanced maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation. Coordinates with vendors to develop products and new concepts for products.  Interfaces with marketing divisions and customers to support sales goals.Assists Customer Service/Technical Services regarding competitive analysis, consultation and customer claims as required.Provides training to sales organization members as necessary.May present formal technical training seminars to customers and/or employees as needed.

 

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or chemical engineering required and 4 to 6 years progressive experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in automotive fuels and oils.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 Comprehensive knowledge regarding automotive fuel and lubrication products and market. Requisite skills necessary to conduct laboratory work for project completion. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and implement policies where appropriate. Must have good speaking, writing and working relation skills. Must be able to relate in applicable terms when speaking.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and other employees. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Due to the nature and requirements of this position, the ability to conduct all written and oral communication in English and understand the English language is required. Ability to work well within a team environment.
