Manufacturing Software Development Engineer

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company currently has an opening for a Manufacturing Software Development Engineer at its' corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

Global Engineering and Manufacturing Technology has the responsibility to invent, design, and deliver product and process technologies to make Goodyear's Business Strategies achievable. This department engineers and integrates new technologies to support new products and increased manufacturing capability. It also provides direct and timely support to plant production, engineering, maintenance and energy conservation.

The principle duties and responsibilities of this position include multiple functions relating to the development of client/server-based and web-based database applications on Unix, Linux and Windows XP platforms that support Goodyear's worldwide manufacturing operations. These responsibilities require the engineer to analyze a situation, develop a design specification that address the requirements, design and implement the solution, and document the application for ongoing support. The design process may include the construction of the database objects, development of software and stored procedures which interact with the database, development of user interfaces to the database, development of end-user reports, and the deployment to and support of the application in the plant. Occasional plant trips may be required to coordinate the installation and startup of systems or system upgrades, and the training of plant associates.


Required qualifications are as follows:
* A BS or higher level degree in engineering or related technical field, computer science or equivalent work experience in computer systems technology (three years minimum)
* Working knowledge of databases and structures (Oracle preferred)
* Working knowledge of database stored procedures (Oracle PL/SQL preferred)
* Working knowledge of Web design, including server configuration and administration
* Experience with Unix or Linux operating systems
* Good communications skills
* Experience leading and participating in a cross-functional support team environment, sharing knowledge and experiences with other team members in support of team responsibilities
* Ability to interact with customers from a broad range of computer experience and skill levels in a friendly, open-minded manner
* Ability to interface with and manage outside consultants/contractors hired to supplement the team's resource requirements
* Willingness to travel (10-20%) and work occasional off-hours

Preferred qualifications are as follows:
* Working knowledge of networking
* Working knowledge of any of the following: PowerBuilder; Java Programming language; J2EE Programming Environment; Scripting Languages, i.e. PHP, Javascript, etc.; C Programming Language;
SQR report builder
* Knowledge of tire plant floor processes
