MODIFIED HOURS: Biweekly rotating schedule, 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. (First week Monday-Friday; Second week Tuesday-Saturday).Biweekly rotating schedule, 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. (First week Monday-Friday; Second week Tuesday-Saturday).

 

RESPONSIBILITY:  Working under the supervision of the Trucking Manager, this employee is responsible for the maintenance of all company vehicles, in addition, to valuing all employees, responding to business needs as directed and producing at an acceptable level.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1.    Perform complete service and overhauls on all tractors, trailers and other company vehicles.

2.    Overhaul transmissions and differentials plus repair or replace clutch and drive train components.

3.    Perform air conditioning and brake inspections on all company vehicles to assure proper and safe operation.  Repair or replace parts as required.

4.    Inspect, mount, and dismount tires making necessary repairs and/or replacements as needed to assure over-the-road equipment tires are in 'road-worthy condition.

5.    Properly weld broken frames, bumpers, fifth wheel stops, etc. as required.

6.    Analyze and solve electrical problems.

7.    Obtain and send off oil samples periodically for analysis to determine if there is any internal damage to tractor engine.

8.    Perform repairs based on inspection of vehicles as well as professional diagnosis of problems reported by drivers on vehicle condition report.

9.    Review tractor mileage for possible future overhaul of engine.

10. Review workload and, in the absence of the Trucking Manager, prioritize work in the best interest of the company.

11. Keep necessary service records on all work performed.

12. Maintain and update equipment files on tractors and trailers, which includes warranty changes, recall information and service tips

13. Requisition parts and supplies as necessary to maintain the truck shop in coordination with the Trucking Manager.

14. Keep and use maintenance manuals and parts catalogs for tractors and trailers.

15. Obtain price quotes for vehicle additions and repairs.

16. Properly care for and store all tools used in maintaining equipment.

17. Test-drive and inspect all vehicles to determine other major and minor repairs and service needs.

18. Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.

19. Assist other truck shop personnel in the performance of their duties as requested.

20. Must complete all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.

21. Review all vehicle inspection reports to be aware of any maintenance issues.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be certified to perform air conditioning and brake service and repairs on company vehicles. Valid CDL driver's license and current DOT physical examination required and adherence to all DOT drug testing requirements. Must adhere to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations:  Parts 383, 390-399.

Must be a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with OS HA 1910-178(l), and carry a copy of your certification with you.
