VICE PRESIDENT - HIGHWAYS AND ROADWAYS
Vice President – Highways & RoadwaysTranSystems Corporation, the 15th largest transportation design firm and a leader in providing transportation solutions to public and private sector clients across the entire transportation spectrum, is currently seeking a Vice President for roadway and bridge engineering consulting and design work in our Phoenix, Arizona, transportation office. This key management position, reporting to the Regional Vice President, will be responsible for the overall leadership of the States and Municipalities market sector for the upper Southwest region, under guidance of the Regional Vice President/Market Sector Leader. Responsibilities will include: business development activities in the transportation group within the Phoenix office, expanding the firm's role with existing clients, and developing new relationships with transportation-focused clients. Qualified candidates must have strong working relationship with the Arizona Department of Transportation districts and preferably with other regional municipalities. The successful candidate will represent TranSystems with respect to a specific client assignment including go/no go decisions, contract negotiations, collections, proposal strategy, and all other matters involving the client relationship. He/she will have the opportunity to provide a huge impact on the firm as it grows from gross revenues of $210M in 2007 to $500M in 2012, and with 1,300 employees in 2007 to 3,000 employees in 2012. TranSystems offers a very attractive starting salary (depending on experience) with potential for bonus and future equity participation, as well as an excellent benefit package.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license. • 15+ years experience working on progressively larger highway/roadway/bridge projects with greater responsibility. Established credibility as someone who can deliver a project on time and within budget. • Technically astute and able to follow and critique complex issues related to design, construction, regulatory permits, finance and politics. A goal-oriented problem solver. • Completely comfortable overseeing teams of professionals, whether for a design project or a construction management project. • Has track record of winning work for his/her previous employer, and is affable and comfortable at association gatherings, meeting new people and making presentations. • Has current, established relationships in upper management with major road and highway entities, such as Arizona Department of Transportation. For RFQ/RFP pursuits, should be able to assemble a team, structure the proposal approach, manage the interview and, if successful, oversee the work. This would probably be in the capacity of a Program Manager or Senior Project Manager. On occasion, at the client’s insistence, the successful candidate would devote himself/herself to a single project on a full time basis. • Experience in the Southwest highway engineering and planning arena that will enable him/her to identify potential new hires or acquisitions. General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.• Responsible for developing the client to the fullest extent with respect to services offered and geographic reach. • Understanding and meeting the client's expectation and expanding the firm's role within the client's organization.• Successfully uses resources and expertise across the firm to efficiently respond to client's objectives.• Develops revenues from the client and is expected to develop and maintain relationships with client representatives.• Develops strategies that ultimately yield a dominant market share.• Coordinates with the Office Manager to use other employees within the firm to carry out the strategies and delegated duties as appropriate.• All financial and administrative decisions that involve established client-Client Manager relations, such as go/no go decisions.• Acts as a cost center for all costs associated with delegated business development activities.• Establishes sales goals and justifies business development expenses in the annual budget. Provides the Office Manager and the market sector leader an estimate of expected sales and other intelligence derived from each client and client prospect during the course of the next year so that proper staffing levels can be maintained.• Updates estimate of sales every two weeks during the course of the year through maintenance of client intelligence (awards, leads, proposal submittals).• Responsible for maintaining backlog availability within the office so that budgeted revenues are attainable.• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.• Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.• Executes strategies that have been developed as a part of the Market Sector Plan which are applicable to the specific clients served by the Client Manager within that sector.• Acts as spokesperson for the firm within the community.• Works directly with Office Managers, Market Sector Leaders, Regional and Corporate Vice Presidents, and Corporate Staff to coordinate and resolve matters affecting the office.Supervisory Responsibilities: Share leadership responsibility with the Office Manager, particularly with respect to practice building and mentoring less senior Client Managers.Education and/or Experience:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 15 years experience in leadership, management, and technical skills. Skills:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer in the state of Arizona.10+ years,A/E/P experience,Highway Design,Professional Engineer License (PE)Additional Information: Travel Percentage: 20%
