Sr. Employee Benefits Analyst

General Purpose
Analyzing, assessing and designing benefits programs and ensuring legal, regulatory and operational adherence of all benefit processes. Using systems and analysis to diagnose corporate-level benefits issues and make recommendations to affect benefit plans and internal policies. Participating in benefits benchmark surveys, analyzing and interpreting data, and making recommendations to ensure Herman Miller benefit programs and processes align with market practices/trends and corporate strategies and philosophies.
Essential Functions
- Partner with benefits manager and employee services manager to develop and implement benefits programs, including data gathering, proposal coordination, and process analysis.
- Assist benefits manager with the health and welfare renewal process by identifying and obtaining required data, analyzing proposals and providing feedback and recommendations.
- Administer medical, dental, life, disability and 401(k) benefits on a daily basis.
- Ensure regulatory compliance: Form 5500 filings, COBRA, HIPAA, FSA, discrimination testing.
- Ensure legal compliance through coordination of government filings, testing and maintenance of plan documents.
- Support plan analysis by creating reports that identify key issues and trends, and recommend changes, as necessary.
- Maintain data integrity by coordinating benefit plan audits and initiating and performing data audits of internal HR and payroll systems and external vendor systems.
- Research and answer questions for employees and provide assistance to human resources generalists.
- Partner with Benefits Manager to prepare, perfect and review monthly billing statements and eligibility reports for vendors (COBRA/BASIC, Priority Health, Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hartford, Sun Life, HHS, Hyatt Legal, Weyco, AFLAC and CIGNA).
- Develop and maintain HR payroll system reports for benefit plan trend analysis.
- Act as liaison with HRIT and provide ongoing training and support to HR staff.
- Coordinate open enrollment system programming.
- Prepare various research and reports as required by both internal and external sources.
- Serve as back up for Retirement Plan Administrator, Manager, and Benefits Manager.
- Provide back up to customer service representative by answering Benefits Hotline, assisting walk in traffic and monitoring Benefits E-Mail Hotline.
- Other projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business-related area or equivalent experience.
- Five years professional experience in employee benefit program analysis.
- Solid understanding of laws and regulations related to benefit plan administration and compliance including FMLA and Leaves of Absence.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the HMI office environment; proficient in spreadsheet analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally interact and communicate with employees on all levels.
- Exceptional organization and follow up.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
