TITLE: Mechanical Engineering Manager

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

SUPERVISES: MEMBERS OF THE DISCIPLINE TEAM

GENERAL SUMMARY:

With little supervision, leads, mentors and develops the technical expertise of the individuals assigned to his or her discipline. Determines staffing needs and allocates appropriate manpower to projects. Responsible for the overall technical skill level and performance, work quality and spirit of the discipline team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. With input from Project Managers, generates proposed hour estimates, schedules, and confirms scope.

2. Identifies staffing needs, with Project Manager’s input, assesses requirements of current and future; plans for additional or fewer staff; communicates with Human Resources for hiring, terminations or layoffs. Assigns staff.

3. Communicates and monitors budgets and schedules (in support of the Project Manager) with discipline. Works with the team to produce and deliver project work within the budget and schedule in accordance with the defined scope.

4. Ensures that discipline members strive for efficiency in terms of technical application, time, money and manpower throughout the production process. Minimizes rework.

5. Provides technical assistance, document review, approval and release.

6. Mentors and develops technical expertise and team spirit of discipline members.

7. Coordinates job scheduling with other Department Managers to prioritize overall work load.

8. Gives on-going performance feedback and conducts bi-annual evaluations.

9. Works to keep communication flowing between departments with respect to projects.

10.  Ensures discipline team members compliance to the policies, guidelines, procedures set forth by GHAFARI.

11.  Reviews and approves time cards, paid time off requests, and continuing education programs.

12.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and work experience. Professional Registration is required.  LEED Certification preferred.

 

Experience: 10+ years related and progressively more responsible work experience within discipline.  Need strong experience in HVAC, plumbing, piping and chillers.
