GIS Specialist, San Diego CA
EDAW Inc, a world leader in landscape architecture, planning and environmental services has an immediate opening for a GIS Specialist to support our San Diego office.
Duties:
The successful candidate will assist in the development and implementation of geographic databases, assist with database management and maintenance, and provide support in conducting spatial analyses. They will also maintain existing computer generated maps, assist in gathering background data from various sources, compile and perform routine analysis to check for applicability and accuracy, and utilize Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. They will also extract data from GIS software using varying analysis methods to arrive at results, provide maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis, as well as provide GPS support such as training, troubleshooting and developing protocols for field activities.
Skill Requirements:
1. Excellent design, visualization, graphic and cartographic skills.
2. Knowledge of GIS theory and application.
3. Requires proven proficiency with ArcGIS 9 and familiarity with geodatabase format.
4. Knowledgeable about ArcGIS extensions, including 3D and Spatial Analyst, as well as Geoprocessing scripts and Model Builder.
5. Knowledge of applicable programming software, including VBA, Python, C++, or. Net languages for customization in GIS.
6. Knowledge of environmental models and simulations using GIS, such as biological, archaeological and hydrologic models.
7. GPS knowledge and experience with GPS field data collection procedures.
8. ArcPad proficiency and experience building custom applications
9. Creating 3D layouts using ArcGlobe, ArcGIS Explorer and Google Earth and Sketchup.
10. Experience incorporating GIS data into Google Earth or creating custom applications for Google Earth.
11. Creating web-based maps with ArcIMS or ArcGIS Server.
12. Proficiency with AutoCAD and integrating CAD data with GIS.
13. Design experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
14. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including MS Access, as well as overall strong computer proficiency.
15. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Additional Desired Skills:
16. Creation of interactive web applications and experience with HTML, XML, AJAX, CSS and Flash development.
17. Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and experience combining BIM with GIS.
Education and Experience Requirements:
BS/BA in Geography, GIS, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Information Systems, Planning, or a closely related field (Masters degree favorable). Generally requires 2 to 5 years related experience. EOE.
