REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

BROAD FUNCTION: Designs new and original machines, modifies existing machines and develops new concepts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Performs design work for special and standard machines. Adapts product design to customer's needs.

2.  Prepares parts lists and requisitions commercial parts. Communicates with vendor.

3.  Assists in testing machines before shipment. Assists in installation and advises customers on machine operation.

4.  Assists in establishing standard engineering procedures

5.  Prepares floor plan and preliminary sales engineering drawings to aid the sales effort.

6.  Recommends design changes to reduce cost and to conform to better methods, in regards to the entire product line.

7.  Analyzes various projects and designs for new assemblies, machines or customer requirements.

8.  Constructs and supervises various tests of new and revised concepts and ideas.

9.  Visits customer's plants to set up or repair machines or assist Sales. Also visits trade shows occasionally in order to stay abreast of new products, our competition and to investigate new markets.

10.  Works up design sketches for new machinery. Does layouts and design of new machinery.

11.  Estimates labor and material for special options, new machines and machine conversions.

12.  Assures that machines are engineered properly.

13.  Solves engineering problems that develop in the field on all product lines.

14.  Assures that machines are shipped on schedule by completing engineering so that Purchasing, Manufacturing, Assembly andtesting can be completed on schedule.

15.  By design and planning, assures that costs are kept within projections so that each machine is produced at a profit.

16.  Performs other functions as directed.

RELATIONSHIPS: 

Works closely with other Engineering personnel.

Coordinates, with production, the design of machines and parts and the use of drawings.

Works with Purchasing in acquiring commercial parts.

Communicates with Sales and Marketing.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

. BSME

. 5 - 10 Years experience in machine design

. Computer Literate

DUTIES:Design Work - Investigate previous jobs and machines that were built. Prior to design, sketches will be made of proposed machine and revised with Engineering Manager. All mathematical calculations will be made in regards to drive, speeds, air requirements, vacuum, etc. to ensure proper design. This will be reviewed with the Engineering Manager. Makes sure he/she is aware of maximum cost that can be incurred prior to starting a design project and keeps the design within these limits. Will notify the Engineering Manager of any instructions or directions given by any person outside of Engineering. Any design changes to the standard product line will be reviewed with the engineering Manager. A proposed sketch with written impact or reason for change will be submitted when reviewed. If it has impact on other departments, the change will not be made until the Engineering Manager reviews it with said departments. Check and initial all drawings made by person assigned to assist in his/her project. Before releasing a job to production, all documents will be complete. This includes, but is not limited to manuals,assembly drawings, parts list, piping diagrams and wiring diagram. Parts list will be checked against each drawing. Each drawing will be checked for correctness and quality.  Timetable for every project or job will be set with the Engineering Manager and it will be adhered to. The Engineering Manager will be notified immediately of any delays, extensions required or increased cost. All projects of 80 hours or more will be charted. All vendor appointments will be approved by the Engineering Manager. Machine Testing - Labor/Option Estimates - Estimates will be fully documented so the Engineering Manager and/or Repair Department can figure cost. This will include, but not be limited to hour estimates, parts required, sketches, speed charts and any risk that may be involved. FIELD PROBLEMS - Will assist Service Department in solving field problems, by talking to customers via phone, through Service Department or trips to the customer's plant. A phone call communication sheet will be filled out and given to the Engineering Manager and he will pass it onto the Service Manager. Continually review the product line for cost reduction and improper/weak design. A written proposal will be given to the Engineering Manager.  Must be able to perform all duties of subordinates in the Engineering Department Analyzing Information
