Architect - Facilities Planning, Design and Construction

Responsible for designs for capital projects utilizing both in-house resources and external consultants, the Architect will coordinate and manage multiple technically complex capital planning and design project activities.  He or she will create plans and specifications for alterations projects, approve in-house design work, and be responsible for coordination with construction project managers on multiple projects.  In addition, he or she will coordinate feasibility studies including preparing program information, coordinating work of interdepartmental groups, and working with end users at all levels of the University.

 

The Architect will also work to obtain required information from end users and translate needs into project programs and RFPs for consultant services.  In addition, he or she will inspect projects during construction to ensure compliance with codes and specifications, prepare written and graphic presentations, and perform analysis and complex decision making to solve problems.  Also serves as the University’s representative to the State Division of Capital Asset Management, the University of Massachusetts Building Authority and other state, federal, local agencies and community organizations on assigned projects.



 

A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering is required along with demonstrated experience managing complex design and construction projects.  Must have registration as an architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or the ability to obtain Massachusetts registration within one year. Position requires ability to access most areas of construction sites including climbing ladders to assess conditions and perform inspections of existing facilities. Must have demonstrated experience in word processing, spread sheet, CAD and data management systems. Experience in institutional design desirable.

 

Master’s degree in Architecture is preferred.
