Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and manage field crews and perform field research, participating in data analysis, interpretation, and report preparation.
Assist the Project Manager in directing staff, schedule personnel, vehicles, and other resources.
Document field notes and compile site forms, technical reports, and maps.
Perform file searches using museum, university, and federal and state records.

Instruct other field employees on methods of inventory and provide verbal and written instructions for specific tasks that they are required to perform.
Instruct employees in special tasks and job techniques.
Track work in progress, manages field budget and staff, modifies work techniques and recording procedures as necessary, and reports performance of staff and project results to the Project Manager.
Assist with technical report writing and production, including eligibility recommendations and review of sections prepared by less experienced staff.
Assist and support the Project Manager in the preparation of proposals and provide feedback on time and/or staffing needs.
The work schedule can commonly require more than 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week.
Ability to accurately record data in the field without assistance from other employees.
Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain, carrying equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications
At minimum, a MA or MS degree from an accredited institution in the field of anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or a closely related field. Applicants with archaeological work experience equivalent to a MA or MS degree may also be considered.
The Field Director must have a minimum of three years of experience in Southwestern or Great Basin archaeology, specific to Colorado, Utah, and Nevada.
